AltaGas - Senior Project Engineer

The Project Engineer is part of the AltaGas REEF project team and works with engineering service providers, fabricators, equipment vendors, and other stakeholders to deliver engineered designs and equipment, and to drive technical solutions within their scope of responsibility. They visit fabrication shops and construction sites as needed to ensure proper implementation of designs. Project Engineers may also provide relief coverage for Field Engineers on site.

Job Responsibilities
  1. Ensure internal stakeholders receive RFPs for awareness.
  2. Engage with the Project Quality Lead for RFP development, technical reviews, and inform when scopes are awarded for inspection requirements.
  3. Oversee design activities to meet cost, schedule, and quality requirements.
  4. Review and approve engineering deliverables, documents, procedures, templates, and contract schedules.
  5. Contribute to the development of Stage Gate Packages, DBM, PEP, and CEP for project sanctioning.
  6. Review regulatory applications and ensure compliance with permit commitments.
  7. Oversee cost estimates and project schedules.
  8. Identify opportunities for cost savings and alternative design solutions.
  9. Maintain project logs (RFI Log, NCR Log, Deficiency Log, etc.).
  10. Lead technical development for engineering services, equipment, and materials for bid packages.
  11. Conduct technical evaluations of bid packages.
  12. Coordinate EWP process to meet scope and schedule requirements.
  13. Manage design changes to control costs and ensure safety and compliance.
  14. Engage stakeholders and support project progress monitoring.
  15. Participate in risk mitigation planning and implement lessons learned.
  16. Oversee the Ready for Operations Master Punch List and support commissioning activities.
  17. Coordinate across project areas and support project close-out.
  18. Monitor industry best practices and recommend improvements.
Candidate Requirements
  1. Recognized bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited university.
  2. P. Eng. or P.L (Eng) designation registered with Alberta Professional Engineers and Geoscientists (or eligible).
  3. 10-15 years of progressive project engineering or management experience.
  4. Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  5. Strong understanding of regulations, codes, and standards governing Oil and Gas facilities in Alberta, BC, and the US (e.g., ABSA, AER, BCOGC, TSBC, ASME, CSA, OH&S, OSHA).
  6. Knowledge of gas processing facilities, pipelines, LACTs, and rail terminals.
  7. Proven track record in greenfield and brownfield project execution.
  8. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and scheduling software (P6, Primavera, MS Project).
  9. Working knowledge of Oracle JD Edwards or similar ERP systems is an asset.
  10. Ability to travel to field locations.
  11. Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
