Job Description

AltaGas - Plant Operator - Pipestone

Reporting to the Operations Superintendent and mentored by senior operations personnel, the Operator will possess full working knowledge of equipment, gas operations, maintenance, and monitoring of facilities and pipelines under their control. The incumbent will be fully familiar with all aspects of gas plant operations, procedures for safety, troubleshooting, production logging, start-up, shutdown, and equipment maintenance.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Achieve the safe, efficient, and environmentally sound operations of all Pipestone Gas Gathering System equipment and connecting pipelines.
  • Provide quick identification and response to emergencies. Understand, abide by, and follow Emergency Response Procedures
  • Work with the Senior Operator or Operations Team Lead to continually improve site-specific training, process safety management, and special projects, updating operating procedures by scheduled review or immediately if conditions require
  • Respond to normal operations, adverse conditions, or serious situations using team members, management, or external expertise as required.
  • Ensure that all work activities comply with AltaGas’ guidelines, EH&S, codes of practice, and other policies, and address concerns immediately and notify Senior Operator or Operations Team Lead if required.
  • Troubleshoot process equipment and concerns, communicate and assist other outside operators when required.
  • Participate in pre-job and work permitting and be responsible for ensuring non-routine or high-risk jobs are reported to and approved by the Senior Operator or Operations Team Lead.
  • Prepare equipment for maintenance following all process and safety procedures, which include lock out / tag out, personal protective equipment, and all environmental performance standards.
  • Ensure good housekeeping at all times, but also responsible for cleaning any areas that may present any safety or environmental hazards.
  • Continuously improve skills and knowledge to enhance professional competence to effectively complete responsibilities and perform your job tasks.
  • Report any health, safety, security, environmental, or EOH&S management system incident, concerns, or near misses. Report and record all non-conformances (environmental and medical aid, etc.)
  • Be available to assist the maintenance department in the capacity of general maintenance.
  • Generate work orders for equipment with the Senior Operator or Operations Team Lead to review. Enter Work Order requests for equipment repairs in the Maximo system.
  • Maintain sensitive and confidential information regarding company information.
  • Communicate effectively and with confidentiality to Pipestone Producers (customers) about nominated flows and curtailments
  • Provide backup and/or relief for senior personnel when they are on vacation.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1 to 3 years of work experience in facility or pipeline operations.
  • Minimum high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite required, including the ability to learn new software applications if needed.

  • This is a safety-sensitive position. The successful candidate is required to complete a pre-employment background check, including drug and alcohol testing.
  • The successful candidate must be willing to work overtime as required and take on-calls while on shift.
  • The successful candidate must wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel-toe shoes, ear and eye protection) for the job Requirements (including SCBA/SABA).
  • The successful candidate must be able to work outside in all weather conditions, such as extreme cold and extreme heat.
