Job summary

AltaGas seeks an experienced Procurement Category Manager in Calgary to drive end-to-end sourcing across multiple categories. You will lead transactional activities, perform market analysis, and negotiate favorable terms while collaborating with Legal, Risk, and Safety teams.

You will apply TCO-based negotiation strategies, manage SOWs and master agreements, and support Senior Category initiatives. Strong analytical and communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Supply Chain Management or related field required
  • 5+ Years of category management experience in contract services and goods (construction, engineering, HR, finance, energy)
  • Strong strategic, project management, process improvement and team-building skills
  • Solid analytical skills to analyze data and foresee market trends
  • Proven negotiation and vendor-relations experience
  • Excellent collaboration and stakeholder-management abilities
  • Strong communication skills to present complex ideas clearly
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving capabilities

Responsibilities

  • Perform high-volume transactional sourcing up to $1M+, including specs, statements of work, and SLAs
  • Identify suppliers, run RFx, reference checks, financial/market analysis, and negotiations
  • Evaluate incumbent/market suppliers using defined criteria; coordinate with legal, risk, safety
  • Ensure timely contract renewals, amendments, and valid contract presence
  • Develop and execute Total Cost of Ownership based negotiation strategies to create value
  • Apply project management to manage a structured sourcing process with quality focus
  • Collaborate with internal/external stakeholders to maintain strong customer service and value
  • Assist Senior Category Manager on ad hoc projects and Strategic Procurement Plans
  • Manage Change orders, SOW reviews with legal/compliance; oversee Master Service Agreements
  • Oversee Engineering/Construction projects including RFX, price analysis, and negotiations

Position Summary

This position is responsible for all aspects of end to end transactional sourcing activities up to $1M and above for assigned categories. This position requires a strong analytical and data driven/problem solver individual. This individual must be positive, creative, energetic, and customer focused and will work collaboratively with the other Category Managers, as well as a diverse group of key stakeholders in Legal, Risk, Safety, and other numerous business units.

Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Perform high volume transactional sourcing activities up to $1M and above, while facilitating the development of specifications, statements of work and service level agreements (SLAs) as applicable.
  • Within assigned sourcing categories, identifies suppliers, performs sourcing opportunities, preparation and solicitation of RFx, reference checks, financial analysis, market analysis, negotiations/re-negotiations, spot buys for all transactional sourcing activities.
  • Evaluates and analyzes incumbent/market and potential suppliers by applying established evaluation and selection criteria; coordinates legal, risk, insurance, safety, etc. and review of the contracts with internal and external stakeholders
  • Responsible for timely contract renewals, agreements, amendments, addendums and ensures valid contracts are in place in the assigned categories
  • Develops and executes negotiation strategy based on Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) to create value to the company with responsibility to achieve saving targets
  • Applies project management methodology and practices to manage a structured sourcing experience with focus on quality to support efficient business processes
  • Collaborates with peers, stakeholders (internal/external) to build and maintain a strong relationship with a focus on customer service and value creation
  • Assist Senior Category Manager on ad hoc projects and Strategic Procurement Plans (SPPs) and manages the requisition worklist in PeopleSoft
  • Manage Change order documentation and approval • Manage Statement of work review and approval with legal and compliance
  • Managing Engineering and Construction projects including RFX, price analysis, negotiation, establishment of terms and establishment of Master Service Agreements
  • Responsible for achieving the best value and maximize the company's profit within assigned categories
Qualifications, Skills and Abilities
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Supply Chain Management or related field required
  • 5+ Years of experience and expertise in category management for contract services and goods in the areas of construction, engineering, field operations, HR, Finance, etc. Energy or utility experience is required
  • Demonstrated strategic, project management, process improvement, innovation, and team building skills
  • Solid analytical skills with hands on experience to analyze and produce accurate conclusions to support category decisions based on key data and ability to foresee market trends and stay ahead of the competition
  • Negotiator with proven record of successful vendor relations and product/service assessment
  • Proven experience in collaboration and team building skills across the enterprise
  • Proven stakeholder management skills and the ability to manage and persuade at all levels of the company along with strong communication skills with the ability to present complex ideas in easy to understand business terms
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with ability to manage competing priorities
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Visio and Project).
  • Strong aptitude for data mining, formulas and logic
