Job description

ABOUT US

At Planitar, we build technology that helps people see and understand the world's spaces more clearly.

We are the creators of iGUIDE, a powerful property technology solution that combines immersive 3D tours, accurate floor plans and reliable spatial data into a single, easy-to-use system. Our cameras and software platform are used by professionals in real estate, insurance, construction and property management to simplify their work and deliver better results.

Planitar recently joined REA Group, one of the world's leading digital property companies. REA operates Australia’s largest residential and commercial property platforms, including realestate.com.au and has a growing global footprint across Asia and North America. Together, we are shaping the future of property technology, combining Planitar's deep spatial data expertise with REA's global scale and innovation engine.

We work in a hybrid environment headquartered in Waterloo, Ontario and are growing quickly as we expand our impact worldwide.

OUR VISION

A connected future where reliable spatial data enables informed decisions across the property lifecycle.

We believe that accurate, accessible spatial data has the power to transform how people buy, sell, insure, build and manage property.

  • Accountability: We honour our commitments.
ABOUT THE ROLE

As an Algorithm Developer, you will join a tight-knit engineering team building the next generation Planix capture system. You will work on the 3D reconstruction pipeline that converts raw sensor data (images, LiDAR, IMU, etc.) into high-quality 3D outputs (photospheres, point cloud, mesh, etc.). You'll work closely with system engineering, embedded FW, visualization design and draft operation teams to deliver new and improved reality capture capabilities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Design, develop, test, and deploy 3D reconstruction algorithms.
  • Responsible for optimizing data processing pipeline from photon to mesh.
  • Integrate and align data streams from multiple sensors, including RGB cameras, depth sensors, and GPS/IMU inputs.
  • Scale prototype algorithms into robust, core APIs or production-ready software to be utilized by embedded developers and downstream product teams.
  • Continuous improvements to algorithm accuracy, reliability and efficiency
QUALIFICATIONS

Technical

  • 3+ years of experience in algorithm development/test/deployment.
  • Sc., M.Sc., or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Strong foundation in linear algebra, 3D projective geometry, spatial transformations, and numerical optimization.
  • Proven experience with photogrammetry, SLAM/odometry, point cloud filtering/alignment, and meshing.
  • Advanced coding skills in C++ and Python, alongside experience with computer vision and deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, OpenCV, Open3D).
  • Bonus: sensor fusion (LIDAR/IMU/GPS), Gaussian Splat, NVIDIA Jetson platform.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Experience collaborating effectively with team members and other stakeholders to develop concepts from ideation, to launch, to subsequent iteration.
