Job description

Position overview

As a Heavy-Duty Equipment Technician, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing mobile/portable equipment. Your duties include diagnostics, mechanical overhauls, and maintenance on various specialized and heavy-duty equipment such as fire trucks, runway trucks, sweepers, chemical application vehicles, mowers, and trucks with diesel and gas engines with various attachments.

You will join a team of technicians, apprentices, and planners managing an inventory of over 350 pieces of response and heavy equipment designed for the airport environment.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Maintaining and repairing emergency rescue and operational vehicles and equipment, including fire trucks, foam trailers, pumps, and emergency response vehicles
  • Maintaining summer and winter operation vehicles and equipment such as mowers, backhoes, excavators, and road maintenance tools
  • Planning, scheduling, and organizing work areas and facilities
  • Leading activities and sharing knowledge with apprentices
Key qualifications include:
  • Three years' recent experience, with a Red Seal or BC Trade Qualification in Truck or Transport Mechanic or Heavy-Duty Equipment Technician
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Valid BC driver's license (Class 1 or 3 preferred)
Additional details:

The shift schedule is primarily 4/4 days, with winter operations requiring 24/7 coverage. Premium pay may apply for shift and weekend work.

This position is open to both internal and external candidates. Previous performance will be considered for internal applicants. Short-listed candidates may undergo assessments.

Salary Range:

$78,654 to $102,802 per year, based on experience and qualifications.
