Job summary

IMP Aerospace & Defence is seeking an Aircraft Refinisher to prepare/paint aircraft and components within specified tolerances and timeframes. The role includes mentoring teammates, ensuring SCA compliance, and maintaining accurate paperwork.

The candidate should hold a valid paint trade certificate, be familiar with safety standards, work at heights, and possess authority as an SCA, with ability to read technical documentation and support continuous improvement in the paint department.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a valid paint trade certificate from a recognized school.
  • Must adhere to safety standards/procedures for aircraft refinishing.
  • Must be able to work at heights above ten feet/three meters.
  • Must be qualified as an Aircraft painter and in the Aircraft Cleaner/Stripper trade.
  • Maintain Maintenance Release Authority as an SCA.
  • Able to read/interpret technical data in manuals, drawings and WOs.

Responsibilities

  • Carries out complete painting and related activities including sealing and stenciling on aircraft and related products.
  • Prepares surfaces including stripping, cleaning, masking, and tack ragging as needed.
  • Provides SCA for all aircraft tasks in the paint department and completes related paperwork.
  • Supervises Airframe Painters and Cleaner/Stripper, and mentors on-the-job training.
  • Provides mentorship and leadership to paint department personnel.
  • Performs additional tasks as required and assists other Paint/Refinishing/Stripper team members.

Position Overview

The Aircraft Refinisher will demonstrate the ability to prepare/paint aircraft, aircraft components and parts within given tolerances and time frames. In addition, they will act as a mentor to others in the department, a subject matter expert and be responsible for holding SCA and ensuring adherence to schedules.

What You Will Do
  • Carries out complete painting and related activities including sealing and stenciling on aircraft and other products manufactured, repaired, or overhauled by the company.
  • Carries out preparation of surfaces including stripping, cleaning, masking, and tack ragging as necessary.
  • Provides SCA for all aircraft and component related tasks carried out by the paint department, including the accurate completion of all related paperwork.
  • Provides technical supervision to Airframe Painters and Aircraft Cleaner/Stripper and provides mentorship to personnel undertaking on-job-training (OJT) and on-job-experience (OJE).
  • Provide mentorship and leadership to paint department personnel.
  • Performs other tasks as may be required from time to time in his/her trade and assists other members of the Aircraft Painter / Refinishing / Stripper Trade Group in the tasks as directed.
What You Will Bring
  • Must be in possession of a valid paint trade certificate from a recognized and accredited school.
  • The incumbent will be fully conversant with safety standards/procedures concerning the plant, equipment, and materials for the Aircraft Refinishing trade.
  • The individual will be required to work at heights more than ten feet/three meters.
  • The Aircraft Refinisher will be qualified as an Aircraft painter and in the Aircraft Cleaner/Stripper trade.
  • Must hold and maintain Maintenance Release Authority as a Full Shop Certification Authority (SCA).
  • Must be skilled at retrieving, reading and interpreting technical documentation such as technical manuals, drawings and Technical Data Packages (TDPs), Work Orders (WOs), Request for Engineering Services (RES) instructions and associated data.
  • Must be skilled at completing customer documentation such as Paint Reports.
  • Demonstrate a personal commitment to IMP Occupational Health, Safety and Environment policies.
  • Continually focusing on your individual safety and the safety of others who may be affected by your work and fully complying with all Federal Health and Safety Legislation.
  • Proficient in the cleaning of spray guns and other paint application/removal equipment.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement, Lean & 6S activities in your area.
  • Must be eligible to meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Canadian Government Security Clearances.
