West Fraser is seeking an AI Developer - Platform & Governance Engineer to build and operate secure AI foundations, governance, and lifecycle practices across the enterprise. You will collaborate with AI delivery, cybersecurity, privacy, data governance, and vendor teams to ensure secure, auditable, and scalable AI services.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent practical experience in CS, cloud engineering, cybersecurity, information systems or related field.
  • Experience administering or engineering enterprise cloud platforms, data platforms, integration platforms, security services, or software delivery environments.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud architecture, IAM, network security, secrets management, monitoring, logging, automation, and deployment practices.
  • Practical understanding of generative AI, LLMs, agents, knowledge grounding, AI lifecycle, and operational risks.
  • Experience with governance frameworks, risk assessments, control design, audit evidence, policy implementation, and operational procedures.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft technologies such as Foundry, Azure AI, Entra, Purview, Copilot Studio, Power Platform, Fabric, Azure Monitor, and cost management is an asset.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code, source control, deployment pipelines, scripting, APIs, and automation is an asset.
  • Understanding of privacy, cybersecurity, data governance, records management, regulatory compliance, and responsible AI expectations.
  • Ability to translate policy and risk requirements into practical technical controls with minimal friction.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design, configure, administer, and support AI platforms, services, environments, and shared components.
  • Establish platform standards for identity, access, network, secrets, data protection, logging, monitoring, deployment, and environments.
  • Develop and maintain AI solution intake, risk assessment, approval, release, change, exception, review, and retirement processes.
  • Maintain an inventory of AI solutions, agents, models, knowledge sources, owners, uses, risks, controls, and contacts.
  • Implement monitoring and observability for availability, performance, quality, safety, usage, capacity, cost, and health.
  • Establish agent and model lifecycle controls including versioning, approvals, reviews, and retirement criteria.
  • Support responsible AI assessments by documenting intended use, limitations, risks, safeguards, and evidence.
  • Work with cybersecurity and privacy teams to assess threats, permissions, data exposure, and vendor risk.
  • Apply information governance to prompts, outputs, history, sources, logs, and retention.
  • Create platform patterns, guardrails, templates, policies, and operating procedures for solution teams.
  • Track consumption and cost; identify optimization opportunities; provide reporting on platform usage.
  • Coordinate upgrades, release impacts, service health, incidents, disaster recovery, outage continuity, and vendor support.

Role Summary:

West Fraser is looking for an AI Developer -Platform & Governance Engineer to establish and operate the technical foundations, controls, and lifecycle practices required to scale AI safely across the enterprise. This role combines platform engineering, cloud operations, identity and security, responsible AI, governance, observability, cost management, and production support. The successful candidate will work closely with AI delivery teams, cybersecurity, privacy, data governance, records management, enterprise architecture, infrastructure, and vendors to ensure AI services are secure, reliable, auditable, and supportable.

What You Will Do:
  • Design, configure, administer, and support approved enterprise AI platforms, services, environments, and shared components.
  • Establish platform standards for identity, access, network connectivity, secrets, data protection, logging, monitoring, deployment, and environment separation.
  • Develop and maintain AI solution intake, risk assessment, approval, release, change, exception, review, and retirement processes.
  • Maintain an inventory of AI solutions, agents, models, knowledge sources, owners, intended uses, risks, controls, and support contacts.

Working Conditions and Location:

  • Occasional travel to other West Fraser locations may be required, including mill, office, or operations locations.
  • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to support pilots, production releases, urgent issues, or scheduled deployments.
