The Prevention and Awareness Worker reports to the Specialized Services Director and the Coordinator of the Violence Against Women (VAW) team. She will provide integrated, collaborative, innovative and non‐traditional support to clients with needs in the prevention and awareness of violence in all its forms. She will work with the CVFF team to build capacity and create opportunities for clients and the community to access services that meet their needs.

The Prevention and Awareness Worker reports to the Specialized Services Director and the Coordinator of the Violence Against Women (VAW) team. She will provide integrated, collaborative, innovative and non‐traditional support to clients with needs in the prevention and awareness of violence in all its forms. She will work with the CVFF team to build capacity and create opportunities for clients and the community to access services that meet their needs.

Responsibilities

  • Work within an anti‐racism, anti‐oppression, culturally and linguistically appropriate approach
  • Focus on supporting victims and / or survivors of human trafficking who are difficult to reach and who are struggling with the determinants of health. This includes vulnerable people at risk and those with complex needs in several areas
  • Implement awareness‐raising initiatives, particularly to help prevent victimization of vulnerable young people
  • Accompany victims and / or survivors in identifying their needs, objectives and individual means to improve their personal, socio‐economic and other situations
  • Provide referrals of victims and / or survivors to appropriate services and ensure liaisons with community agencies
  • Organize and facilitate workshops and activities aimed at raising awareness on issues related to human trafficking to promote socialization of victims / survivors and increase their autonomy
  • Organize awareness campaigns that will enable the community to prevent and identify at risk situations
  • Use best practices in prevention and awareness‐raising initiatives
  • Identify trends and gaps in services and community education
  • Develop promotional and educational resources against human trafficking
  • Collaborate with existing resources to ensure quality in the services provided
  • Work in collaboration with the VAW Team with respect to the social determinants of health
  • Assist clients in developing basic skills (i.e., improving physical, social and mental health and wellbeing, communication and problem solving) and helping them develop independent living skills (i.e., finding and managing housing, making and attending appointments)
  • Provide services in a variety of locations in both Hamilton and Niagara (schools, university and college campuses, newspapers and social media)
  • Participate in the two anti‐trafficking coalition tables
  • Implement the awareness plan that responds to the anti‐trafficking strategy
  • Performs all other related work as assigned or required

Required Technical Knowledge

  • Knowledge / Understanding of the issues and challenges of French language services in a minority setting
  • Knowledge of the reality of gender violence and the issues of human trafficking
  • Knowledge of the feminist approach to violence against women
  • Ability to manage complex and crisis situations
  • Knowledge in public awareness and event planning
  • Knowledge of strategies implemented by the government of Ontario related to human trafficking

Qualifications And Other Requirements

  • Have a degree or diploma in Human Services or in a related field from a recognized institution
  • Excellent knowledge of oral and written French and English
  • Have extensive knowledge of existing community services and networks
  • Show a demonstrated belief in CSCHN’s mission, vision, and values
  • Possess at least two (2) years’ experience working in human services, as well as an understanding and belief in the abilities of individuals afflicted with mental health and complex health and social issues
  • Knowledge and experience in mental health, addictions and Indigenous cultural practices are assets as well as bilingualism and lived experience
  • Be committed to engaging with difficult to reach and underserved populations
  • Demonstrate strong aptitude for creativity and out‐of‐the box thinking and willingness to explore new and unique ways of service delivery
  • Be skilled at working independently and be comfortable working within a multidisciplinary team
  • Be available to work days, evenings and weekends as required, and remain flexible to work after hours
  • A valid First Aid & CPR certificate would be an asset
  • Have a valid driver's license and use of a vehicle with proof of appropriate insurance
  • Provide a clean Police Vulnerable Person Criminal Record Check (PVSC)
