Job summary

CBC Edmonton is seeking an experienced reporter/editor to join our multiplatform news team. You will analyze a broad range of issues and craft stories for radio, digital, and video, with a focus on Edmonton and northern Alberta.

You will work weekday afternoons/evenings, with strong news judgment, quick turnaround, and ability to source diverse perspectives while meeting CBC journalistic standards across platforms.

Qualifications

• University degree in journalism or equivalent with minimum 3 years of related experience.
• Experience as a multi-platform reporter in a fast-paced daily news environment.
• Ability to pitch and pursue strong story ideas for Edmonton and northern Alberta.

Responsibilities

• Respond quickly to breaking news events – chasing, gathering, writing and packaging stories for digital, radio, social and visual programming.
• Regularly present stories live and on-air, providing analysis and context to enhance the audience’s understanding of issues.
• Distill large amounts of complex information under tight time constraints.
• Pitch, research, write and package original stories for all platforms that will engage and inform the audience, deepen our community connections and elevate a range of voices.
• Cultivate and develop working relationships with a large pool of sources and contacts.
• Collaborate with colleagues to develop and break stories, and coordinate long-term coverage.
