Job summary

The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board is seeking qualified casual tutors for the Literacy and Numeracy program in Ottawa, Ontario. Positions offer after-school hours (3:30 pm–8:00 pm) with pay ranging from $21.49 to $26.86 per hour plus 4% vacation pay.

The program supports grades 7–12 with small-group or one-on-one sessions, focusing on improving academic performance and meeting provincial standards. Applications may staff opportunities over 4–6 months.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in Ontario; OCT Certification in J/I/S is an asset.
• Experience teaching or tutoring students in grades 7-12.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Passion for helping students succeed with patience and empathy.
• Ability to adapt to different learning styles.
• Knowledge of the Ontario K-12 School Curriculum.
• Experience with Google tools to engage students.
• Strong time-management to keep sessions on track.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one or small-group instruction to help students improve their academic performance, prepare for examinations, or work toward provincial standards.
• Evaluate students' current knowledge level, learning style, and areas for growth.
• Develop tailored lesson plans and study strategies aligned with the Ontario curriculum.
• Explain complex concepts clearly using visual aids, practice problems, or interactive technology.
• Evaluate progress and provide regular feedback to parents, guardians, and day school teachers.
