Job summary

WestJet in Vancouver area is seeking an Advisor - Station Support to assist the operational leadership with scheduling, payroll, recruitment, and training.

The role emphasizes effective communication, tracking channels, and change management while supporting the base by monitoring hours, forecasting needs, and ensuring staffing aligns with budgets and peak-season demands.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years leadership experience in a guest-focused, operational environment.
  • Knowledgeable in scheduling practices and 24/7 shift planning with large teams.
  • Experience delivering a multichannel communications strategy to a diverse team.
  • Scheduling/leadership experience with Above-the-Wing and Below-the-Wing operations is a plus.
  • Proven ability to influence and drive change within a team.
  • Strong business acumen to support budget and departmental plans.
  • Proficiency with PC-based applications: MS Project, Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of ability management.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule base resources to meet operational needs within budget and guidelines.
  • Coordinate long-term resource plans based on flight schedules and load factors.
  • Provide monthly hours variance reports to Senior Manager – Station Support.
  • Support workforce team and ensure station operates within budget with proactive trend reporting.
  • Support base recruitment aligned with operational needs and budgeted hours.
  • Track feedback and trends related to resources, training and recruitment.
  • Monitor team size and labor-hour forecasting to ensure adequate coverage for peak seasons.
  • Collaborate with Performance & Development Managers and Health & Wellness teams on return-to-work programs.
  • Assist in development and implementation of new initiatives with operational leadership.
  • Coordinate with Unifor and AEA representatives to address employee concerns.

Advisor - Station Support, YVR (Full Time)

The Advisor - Station Support, reporting to Senior Manager - Station Support, will support the operational leadership team for base wide functions that include workforce scheduling and payroll, recruitment, training and leadership delivery support. With an emphasis on effective communication, the advisor will support the base by monitoring and tracking communication channels and provide change management support and guidance to the leadership team.

  • Responsible for the scheduling of base resources and for ensuring that the required resources are in place to meet operational needs and that schedules are within budget and in alignment with airports scheduling guidelines.
  • Coordinate the development of the long term resources plans based on flight schedules, anticipated load factors, arrival curves etc.
  • Provide monthly reporting to leaders of functional areas on actual hours used to forecast and report to the Senior Manager – Station Support on any variances.
  • Support the workforce team and ensure that the station operates within budget and provide guidance on future trending to ensure that the overall budget is maintained.
  • Facilitate and support all base recruitment in line with operational needs and budgeted hours.
  • Tracking and consolidation of feedback and monitoring of trends as it relates to resources allocation, training and recruitment.
  • Monitoring team size and labour hour forecasting to station leadership to ensure that the base has the required resources and backfill in all positions to account for peak season demands and attrition.
  • Work with Performance & Development Managers and Health and Wellness Teams to deliver return to work programs where schedules and duties are appropriate, key leaders are informed and that returning team members receive appropriate training and support.
  • Support the operational leadership team in the development, communication and implementation of new initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with Unifor and the AEA representatives at the base to respond to employee concerns.
Experience & Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 3-5 years leadership experience in a guest focused, operational environment is required.
  • Knowledgeable in scheduling practices and experienced in the development of schedules in a 24/7 environment with a large staff compliment is an asset.
  • Experienced in the development and implementation of a multichannel communications strategy capable of delivering complex information to a diverse team.
  • Scheduling and/or leadership of Above-the-Wing and Below-the-Wing experience is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience in maintaining effective employee relations and in the management of leadership and front-line performance.
  • Excellent ability to multitask, handle changing priorities and manage change through a team of leaders with a large front-line compliment.
  • Proven history of effecting change through influence.
  • Possess strong business acumen in order to deliver departmental plans including budget.
  • Proficient in PC based applications, Microsoft Project, Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledgeable of ability management.
