Job summary

Desjardins, via the DuProprio team, seeks a Temporary 12-month Legal Affairs Advisor to safeguard the organization’s legal interests and ensure regulatory compliance. You will advise on notarial matters, participate in board meetings, and develop governance tools while collaborating with stakeholders.

You will bring at least two years of relevant experience, a Bachelor’s degree, and strong French/English communication.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required.
  • Two years of relevant experience minimum.
  • Other combinations of qualifications and experience may be considered.
  • Notarial law specialization is an asset.
  • Be a member of the Chambre des notaires du Québec is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Advise and support the organization’s units and decision-making bodies on initiatives and activities related to your line of work.
  • Analyze data, conduct studies, write reports and legal opinions.
  • Organize, coordinate and attend meetings, including board meetings.
  • Provide legal oversight for the organization.
  • Help diagnose issues and develop target outcomes.
  • Monitor industry trends and develop best practices.
  • Serve as a resource for your unit, clients and partners.

Temporary 12- Month Position

This position is offered within the DuProprio team, a subsidiary of Desjardins Group.

Required

As a legal affairs advisor, you help protect the organization’s legal interests by ensuring it complies with all laws. You also play a key role in making sure that its rights are protected and obligations are met. You represent the organization in situations involving its legal interests. You may be responsible for one or more sub-specialties, such as contested matters and the Office of the Corporate Secretary (ethics and professional conduct, official registries, meeting minutes, the general meeting, etc.). You advise and assist clients and partners as part of intervention and development initiatives. You develop tools, methods and processes. Your projects and initiatives require extensive knowledge of your line of work. You propose recommendations, solutions and action plans based on the organization’s objectives and priorities. You share ideas and help solve problems using your analytical skills and extensive knowledge of the line of business. You interact with stakeholders working in other fields. Interpersonal savvy is therefore essential.

What You Bring To The Table
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • A minimum of two years of relevant experience
  • Please note that other combinations of qualifications and relevant experience may be considered
  • Academic specialization in notarial law (an asset)
  • Be a member of the Chambre des notaires du Québec
  • Strong communication skills in both French and English, both oral and written due to the nature of the duties or work tools or because the position involves interactions with english-speaking parteners, members and/or clients
  • Available to work 5 days per week, including at least one evening shift (11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.) and weekends (Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., according to a predetermined rotation)
