Job summary

Economical, part of Definity, seeks a Business Development Advisor to manage a broker portfolio across KW, Burlington, Hamilton and Niagara. You will drive broker engagement, negotiate incentives, and build profitable, long-term partnerships within commercial and farm lines.

You will lead contract management, performance monitoring and training to optimize broker performance and contribute to top-line growth. Strong P&C expertise essential.

Qualifications

  • Strong working knowledge of Personal Insurance
  • 5 years of Property and Casualty experience, including 5+ years in broker-facing roles
  • Proficiency in Salesforce, Microsoft 365, ServiceNow and GuideWire an asset
  • Experience in broker management, contract negotiation and analytics

Responsibilities

  • Act as primary contact for designated brokerages within region
  • Develop and maintain broker relationships and pipeline

TheOpportunity

The Business Development Advisor (BDA) reporting into the regional Business Development Director (BDD)is responsible for managing and developing a portfolio of strategic brokers focused on commercial Insurance (CI) and Farm lines of business within a defined region. The BDA acts as a key business advisor, ensuring contractual compliance, driving broker engagement, and fostering long-term, profitable partnerships. The role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including contract management, performance monitoring, business development, training, and communication, with a focus on optimizing broker performance and achieving top and bottom-line targets.

WhattoExpect
  • Acts as the primary point of contact for designated brokerages while working in conjunction with Business Development Specialist(s), in executing the regional strategy and achievement of the territory sales targets
  • Actively manages relationships within the existing Broker network
  • Support brokerage sales targets and commitments
  • Works with the broker principles on contract negotiations.
  • Plans Broker appointments, manages the broker planning, negotiates incentives and overrides, manages CPC and broker terminations
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with broker principles and key commercial producers, building a pipeline of large commercial leads
  • Provides excellent customer service to support operational efficiency
  • Creates strategic growth opportunities across lines of business
  • Drives Broker satisfaction in alignment with the Broker segmentation strategy
  • Identifies and addresses inquiries/concerns from the Brokers they support, escalating to the appropriate Economical team and following it through to resolution.
  • Implements Broker product, sales, system and technology training (as appropriate)
  • Works with the Business Development Specialist in managing Broker relationships to drive profitable GWP growth, and collaborates with peers in Business Development, Regional & National Underwriting Operations and Claims in the Region to share market intelligence and deliver a consistent Broker experience which meets or exceeds Broker expectations and needs
  • Territory is brokers in the KW, Burlington, Hamilton, Niagara area.
What youBring
  • Strong working knowledge of Personal Insurance, which is a key success factor for operating in Economical's multi-line sales environment
  • Commercial Insurance and Farm Insurance lines of business knowledge would be an asset.
  • 5 years of Property and Casualty experience, including 5+ years in a broker-facing property, casualty, commercial role within Underwriting, Sales & Distribution, etc
  • Proficient in Salesforce, Microsoft 365, ServiceNow and GuideWire an asset
  • Experience with financial reporting and analytics
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • A strong ability to influence and effectively negotiate with stakeholders
  • A valid driver's license with a driving record acceptable to the company
  • Preference will be given to bilingual candidates (French and English)
SalaryRange

$73,500 - $123,500

High degree ofproficiencywith Englishrequiredto service customers, both internal to the company and external, across Canada.


Actual salary for the role may vary depending on work location of the successful candidate and other factors including but not limited to, skills, education, experience, working conditions and the local labour market.
