Position Overview

The ideal candidate is an Advanced Practice Provider (Advanced Practice Nurse or Physician Assistant) with at least 1 year of oncology or surgical experience. Exceptional new graduates with a focused interest will also be considered.

Key Responsibilities
Medical Knowledge
  • Demonstrate comprehensive oncology-specific and general medical-surgical knowledge.
  • Provide rational explanations for clinical decisions based on guidelines, science, and experience.
  • Contribute to research efforts by staying informed about protocols and identifying trial candidates.
Patient Care
  • Perform initial and episodic health histories and physical exams.
  • Interpret findings and develop individualized care plans.
  • Educate patients and families about care management, side effects, and psychosocial issues.
Practice-Based Learning and Improvement
  • Identify learning needs and seek continuing education.
  • Apply research findings to practice.
Interprofessional Collaboration and Communication
  • Communicate effectively with the healthcare team.
  • Document care plans and clinical information accurately.
  • Participate in team meetings and tumor boards.
Professionalism
  • Act as a resource and leader in oncology care.
  • Manage time effectively.
  • Engage in personal and professional development.
Systems-Based Practice
  • Participate in quality improvement activities.
  • Document services for reimbursement.
  • Assist patients in navigating barriers to care.

Additional requirements for Advanced Practice Nurses include proficiency in holistic nursing approaches considering psycho/social/spiritual and physical aspects within the social and cultural context.
