Job summary

Canada Life in Winnipeg, MB, is seeking an Actuarial Student for a 4 or 8 month placement. This hybrid role requires in-person work 3 days per week at the Winnipeg head office. You will gain experience across valuation, asset and liability management, corporate actuarial and risk controls while pursuing actuarial credentials.

The program offers mentorship, paid exam fees and study days, a collaborative environment, and progression toward Fellowship of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries.

Qualifications

• Working towards a University degree, preferably with a major in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Finance or Statistics.
• Strong academic achievements and progress toward actuarial exams.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.
• Well organized with attention to detail and able to work both independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

• Work in areas such as Valuation and Financial Management, Asset and Liability Management, Corporate Actuarial, Internal Audit or Risk & Controls, Marketing and Customer Insights.
• Be part of a friendly, supportive team with mentorship and development opportunities.
• Participate in ongoing education and exam support while gaining hands-on actuarial experience.

Demonstrated commitment to the actuarial field through successful completion of professional actuarial exams, an actuarial education, or similar.

Excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.

Well organized, delivering accurate work with an attention to detail, in a timely manner.

Team player who is also comfortable working independently.

Excel, Word, VBA, MSAccess and Moody’s AXIS experience is an asset.

Knowledge or interest in insurance/reinsurance, market risk, and investments is an asset.

The base salary for this position is between $46,440 - $80,280 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation (i.e. annual bonus, commission etc). If you are selected to move forward in our recruitment process, your recruiter will be able to discuss additional details of our total rewards program with you.

For our student opportunities, the base salary will be dependent on the number of work terms you have completed along with other factors depending on your program.
