Job summary

Great-West Lifeco in Toronto, ON, is seeking a Manager, Actuarial Research & Development to lead mortality and lapse studies and oversee a small actuarial team. You will analyze external trends, propose model changes, and prepare reports for senior management.

The role blends technical actuarial work with process improvement and leadership duties. Ideal candidates hold FSA/FCIA with 3-5 years in actuarial research, and demonstrate strong communication, mentoring, and project management skills

Qualifications

• FSA/FCIA designation with 3–5 years actuarial experience.
• Familiarity with mortality and lapse study methodologies.
• Proficiency in Moody’s AXIS (Regular Life module required; EBS module preferred).
• Strong analytical, decision-making, and communication skills.
• Supervisory and team management experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform the annual experience studies for mortality and lapse.
• Manage data gathering, model setup, and model runs.
• Review inputs and outputs for accuracy and appropriateness.
• Summarize results to facilitate senior management decisions.
• Identify process improvements in model governance and workflows.
• Manage day-to-day work of 1–2 direct reports.
