Job summary

Child Development Institute (CDI) is seeking an Activity Group Support Worker to supervise siblings of SNAP clients in the evening. You will plan and deliver engaging activities for children aged 2-12, prepare healthy snacks, and support the SNAP teams to meet each child’s needs.

Flexible, casual hours with no guaranteed shifts. Applicants should be 16+, with First Aid training or babysitting course as assets, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Minimum age 16 years.
  • First Aid Training is an asset.
  • Completion of a recognized babysitting course is an asset.
  • Second language is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups.

  • Assists families and accompanies siblings to Activity Group.
  • Keeps Activity Group spaces clean and secure after each shift.

Who we need

Activity Group Support Worker (AGSW) provides child minding for the siblings of clients participating in the SNAP program under the direction of the SNAP Activity Group Leader.

This position requires the skills to plan and deliver fun and engaging activities for children ages 2-12.

The AGSW also prepares healthy snacks for the Activity and SNAP groups and clean up at the end of the night.

The incumbent will work collaboratively with the Activity Group Leader and SNAP clinical staff to ensure the needs of each child are met in the Activity Group.

This is a non-bargaining casual contract position requires to work flexible evening hours. Hours are not guaranteed.

What the role is all about...
  1. Accepts and works within the framework of the Institute’s stated vision, mission, values, and goals
  2. Supervises the siblings of clients participating in the SNAP program ensuring the safety and security of all participants
  3. Monitors participant behaviours and ensures proactive intervention to avoid potential behavioural escalations
  4. Ensures that food and drinks are available and prepares snacks and refreshments for participants in the Activity Group and SNAP Groups and delivers snacks to groups when required
  5. Implements activities for children age 2-12 under the direction of the SNAP Activity Group Leader
  6. Helps to meet and greet families and accompany siblings to Activity Group
  7. Ensures that Activity Group spaces are clean and securefollowing each shift.

Other Requirements

Mental Effort
  • Mental effort required in multi-tasking and handling interruptions that require constant refocusing.
  • Mental flexibility required to lead a group program with a number of components (briefing, meet & greet, dinner, interactive, group, goodnight, documentation, debriefing) requiring ability to support and adapt to client and team needs
  • Manage crisis situations, as needed following agency policies, child welfare and health and safety standards
Physical Effort
  • Standing and moving for the majority of the shift
  • Lifting or moving up to 20lbs may be required
Working Conditions
  • Governed by concurrent and dynamic deadlines, despite conflicting priorities and frequent interruptions
  • Noise level is moderate to high.
  • Fast-paced work environment.
  • Flexible hours, evening work required.
Compensation

$17.60 per hour. Hours are not guaranteed. Work will be scheduled as needed.
