Job summary

Cogir Senior Living in Calgary is seeking an Active Living Aide (part-time) to assist in planning and implementing meaningful programs for residents under the supervision of the Active Living Manager. You will maintain records, communicate with residents, families and staff, and participate in ongoing education for elder care.

The role requires experience with seniors, strong communication and a compassionate approach to daily activities and outings, with ability to transport residents as needed

Qualifications

• College diploma in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Gerontology or equivalent is required.
• Previous experience working with seniors.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Energetic, compassionate person who enjoys working with the elderly.
• Valid provincial driver's license to transport residents by van (Class 4; Class F).
• Vulnerable Sector Check (within six months) or willingness to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, organization and implementation of meaningful programs for the residents, in collaboration with the Active Living Manager & Executive Director.
• Assist with the maintenance of department records including assessments and evaluations of planned programs detailing individual participation, charting.
• Maintain effective communication with residents, families, volunteers and staff of other departments, keeping them informed of current and upcoming events.
• Attend in-service education to keep informed of current trends in the total care of the elderly.
• Participate in team meetings to plan programs with residents' interests in mind.
• Facilitate residents to scheduled and pre-arranged outings.
• Assist with assessment of individual resident activity levels.
• Prepare, carry out and evaluate daily activities.
• Assist with meal services as required.
• Work in a position of trust with vulnerable adults (residents).
• Uphold and promote the organization's values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity.
• Complete other duties as assigned.
