Position: Accounting Supervisor

Reports to: Controller

Science World is a mission-based, charitable organization that supports the development of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Design and Math) literacy across British Columbia. As a facility, Science World is generally open to the public seven days a week, with some extended evening hours in the summer months. Typical office hours are Monday to Friday 8:00am - 5:30pm, with front-facing and operational teams also working a variety of shifts including weekends, holidays and evenings. Hours of work and other related requirements will be scheduled according to business needs, and this may include special events on evenings, weekends and holidays.

Position Description

Reporting to the Controller, the Accounting Supervisor oversees all Accounts Payable, Receivable, Deposit and Financial Reporting functions. This position's responsibilities include maintaining financial and statistical data, internal controls, business planning, on-going systems maintenance and development, financial analysis, and payroll processing. The Accounting Supervisor will supervise the accounts payable, receivable, deposit, and financial reporting functions to ensure they uphold GAAP and other standards set by Science World.

Responsibilities
  • Supervision of the Accounts Payable, Receivable, Deposit (bunker) and Financial Reporting functions
  • Review and submit all required statutory returns (e.g., PST, GST) and stay up to date with reporting deadlines
  • Maintain and update employee information in the company's database
  • Management and processing of bi-weekly payroll and issuing ROE and T-4 forms
  • Manage and maintain GL accounts, subledgers and main general ledger
  • Complete complex bank reconciliations
  • Prepare accruals including payroll and related accounts
  • Prepare account reconciliations including prepaids, and accruals
  • Contribute to grant reporting and complete grant reconciliations
  • Record membership deferral and complete related reporting
  • Assist with T3010 annual charity return compilation
  • Assist with Financial Statement preparation
  • Prepare month-end and year-end working papers
  • Contribute to the annual audit
  • Oversee attendance reporting
  • System maintenance and enhancement
  • Invoice approval
  • Audit transactions, including expense claims
  • Record investment transactions
  • Assist in the preparation of the financial forecasts and annual budget
  • Provide coverage and support for the Controller
  • Operate within the philosophy, culture, and values of Science World
  • Performs other related duties as required to fulfill any changing business needs of this role
Qualifications
  • 4th year CPA student with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration or a Finance related degree
  • Minimum of 3-year supervisory experience in an Accounting/Finance environment
  • Experience or knowledge in using the Service Canada Website and Canada Revenue Agency website
  • Experience or knowledge in using payroll processing software
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly in Excel and Sage 300
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional accuracy and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to meet deadlines and to work independently in a multi-tasking environment

The pay range for this position is $70,000 - $75,000 per year.
