Job summary

Canadian Natural Resources Limited (CNRL) in Calgary is seeking a proactive Accounting Student for an intern role across Accounts Payable, audit, and financial accounting. You will work with mentors to gain hands-on experience and contribute to real-world accounting tasks.

The role offers exposure to royalty and property accounting, a 5 days-on/2 days-off schedule, and multiple start dates (January, May, September 2027) with term lengths of 8, 4, 8, or 12 months depending on the program.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in 2nd or 3rd year of an undergraduate Accounting degree.
• Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
• Effective communication and teamwork.
• Familiarity with accounting concepts and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Process capital, revenue, royalty and expense amounts within governing agreements.
• Prepare reports, journal entries and statements of accounts.
• Reconcile and analyze general ledger accounts.
• Set up and manage oil and gas properties and their transaction files.
• Gather, research, review, vouch, enter and confirm data accuracy.
• Clarify, investigate and respond to queries and disputes from partners and internal departments.
• Process audit queries from outside partners and internal audit.
• Contribute to project work.

The Opportunity

As an Accounting Student, you will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced and talented professionals and take part in interesting and challenging work assignments in one of the following areas: Accounts Payable, Vendor & Joint Venture Audit, Financial Accounting, Royalty Accounting, Operations Accounting, or Property Accounting. • Job location: Calgary, AB – Head Office
• Shift schedule: 5 days on, 2 days off, 8 hours/day (Monday – Friday)
• Multiple term starts and lengths:
  • January 2027 – 8 months
  • May 2027 – 4, 8, or 12 months
  • September 2027 – 8 or 12 months

Key Accountabilities

What You Bring To The Role

• Currently enrolled in your 2nd or 3rd year of an undergraduate degree program in Accounting, with a commitment to a career in Accounting
• Attention to detail is critical, as are strong analytical skills with a strong work ethic and effective communication skills
• Familiarity with and understanding of:
  • Accounting concepts and principles
  • Research strategies and analytical thinking
  • Microsoft Excel
