Job summary

Vaco Recruiter Services is recruiting for an Accounting Manager for a real estate development and management company in Toronto. You will lead monthly close, prepare corporate statements, and maintain the general ledger across multi-entity structures with strong internal controls.

The role covers development lifecycle accounting, project cost monitoring, lender reporting and executive variance analyses, with collaboration across operations and finance teams.

Qualifications

  • CPA designation preferred; candidates actively pursuing designation will also be considered.
  • Progressive experience in multi-entity accounting environments.
  • Experience with development accounting, project accounting, partnership accounting or construction financing.
  • Previous experience mentoring or supervising accounting professionals.
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and cash management.
  • Advanced Excel skills (Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, data analysis) required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the monthly, quarterly and annual financial close process, ensuring complete, accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Prepare corporate financial statements, supporting schedules, account reconciliations and management reporting packages.
  • Maintain the general ledger, oversee journal entries and ensure the accuracy of intercompany balances and eliminations.
  • Prepare executive reporting packages including variance analysis, financial commentary and key performance metrics.
  • Coordinate year-end working papers and serve as a primary contact for external auditors and professional advisors.
  • Oversee accounting throughout the development lifecycle, from acquisition and pre-development through construction, stabilization and long-term ownership.
  • Monitor project costs, construction expenditures and capitalized development activities.
  • Payroll administered through ADP Workforce Now; ensure compliance with legislation.
  • Prepare project cash flow forecasts and cost reporting to support operational planning and financing activities.
  • Support investor, lender and ownership reporting requirements while maintaining complete financial records.
  • Oversee cash management activities, bank reconciliations and liquidity reporting.

About the Opportunity
  • Lead the monthly, quarterly and annual financial close process, ensuring complete, accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Prepare corporate financial statements, supporting schedules, account reconciliations and management reporting packages.
  • Maintain the general ledger, oversee journal entries and ensure the accuracy of intercompany balances and eliminations.

  • Oversee accounting throughout the development lifecycle, from acquisition and pre-development through construction, stabilization and long-term ownership.

  • Support construction financing, lender reporting, loan draws and related documentation.
  • Prepare project cash flow forecasts and cost reporting to support operational planning and financing activities.
  • Work closely with development and operations teams to ensure accurate project reporting and financial oversight.
  • Manage accounting and reporting for General Partnership and Limited Partnership entities supporting individual developments.
  • Record equity contributions, financing transactions, partnership allocations and related accounting activities.
  • Ensure accurate consolidation of partnership entities into corporate financial reporting.
  • Support investor, lender and ownership reporting requirements while maintaining complete financial records.
  • Oversee cash management activities, bank reconciliations and liquidity reporting.
  • Administer payroll through ADP Workforce Now while ensuring compliance with applicable legislation.
  • Prepare HST returns and support corporate tax requirements in collaboration with external advisors.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and compliance across all accounting processes.
  • Review work completed by junior accounting staff, providing guidance, coaching and technical support.
  • Support the continued implementation, optimization and utilization of Yardi Voyager and other finance systems.
  • Identify opportunities to improve workflows, automate repetitive processes and strengthen reporting capabilities.
  • Partner with leadership across development, operations and property management to deliver timely, value-added financial information.

Salary Range

$100,000 - $125,000 / year
