Job summary

American Iron & Metal Company (AIM) in Montreal, QC, seeks an experienced Accounting Manager to partner with operations and lead the accounting team. You will oversee day-to-day accounting, financial reporting, and inventory valuation, driving accuracy and efficiency across the finance function.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years in accounting with supervisory responsibilities, strong IFRS/NCECF knowledge, and hands-on experience with ERP systems such as Dynamics 365, Maximo, or Dayforce.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance; CPA/CMA asset.
  • Minimum 5 years progressive accounting experience with supervisory responsibilities.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS and/or NCECF and internal controls.
  • Experience in month-end close processes and financial reporting.
  • Manufacturing industry experience is a plus.
  • ERP experience with MS Dynamics 365, Maximo, or Dayforce.

Responsibilities

  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Oversee bank reconciliations, GL reconciliations, petty cash, and inventory reconciliations and document discrepancies.
  • Prepare and analyze financial reports and KPIs for management.
  • Provide variance explanations and financial insights to executives and operations.
  • Coach and mentor accounting team to meet performance goals.
  • Ensure internal controls and governance policies are followed.
  • Coordinate external audits and act as primary finance contact.
  • Identify process improvements and automation initiatives to enhance controls.

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented, and results-drivenAccounting Managerto serve as a true business partner. In this role, you will oversee day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting activities, the integrity of inventory accounting and valuation, and the development and performance of the accounting team.

This position is critical to ensuring the accuracy and reliability of financial information, strengthening internal controls, and providing management with meaningful financial insights to support strategic decision-making. The successful candidate will work closely with Finance, Operations, and cross-functional stakeholders to optimize financial processes and improve operational efficiency.

What you’re responsible for:

  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with applicable accounting standards (NCECF).
  • Oversee and review bank reconciliations, general ledger reconciliations, petty cash, and inventory reconciliations, ensuring discrepancies are analyzed, resolved, and properly documented. Provide guidance on complex accounting issues.
  • Prepare, review, and analyze financial reports and key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Deliver financial analysis and variance explanations to executive leadership and operational teams to support informed decision-making.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop the accounting team while ensuring performance expectations are met and priorities are effectively managed.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and corporate governance requirements.
  • Coordinate external audit activities and serve as the primary finance contact for external auditors.
  • Identify and implement process improvements, automation initiatives, and system enhancements to increase efficiency and strengthen financial controls.
Qualifications

To join our team:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or CMA designation is considered an asset).
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory or people management responsibilities.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS and/or NCECF, financial reporting standards, and internal control frameworks.
  • Proven experience managing month-end close processes and financial reporting cycles.
  • Manufacturing industry experience is considered an asset.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with ERP systems such as Microsoft Dynamics 365, Maximo, Dayforce, or equivalent.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with internal and external stakeholders.
  • High attention to detail, strong sense of accountability, and unwavering financial integrity.
