Job summary

Total Power Limited in Canada seeks an Accounting Manager to lead the close, financial reporting, and controls for a multi‑branch group. Reporting to the VP Finance, Canada, you will drive the period end cycle, improve processes, and strengthen internal controls across the organization.

The role requires a hands‑on leader with coaching skills, deadline discipline, and collaboration with Operations, IT, and senior leadership.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field and a Canadian CPA designation.
  • Five or more years of progressive accounting experience, including leading a team.
  • Strong knowledge of ASPE and private‑equity‑backed reporting environments is an asset.
  • Experience with month‑end close, financial reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, audit support, and internal controls.
  • Understanding of POC revenue recognition, WIP, inventory, and profitability analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Own and manage monthly, quarterly, and year‑end close process, including the close calendar, task coordination, review, and resolution of outstanding items.
  • Prepare and review monthly multi‑entity level financial statements and management reporting, including the income statement, balance sheet, cash flow, and supporting schedules.
  • Review journal entries, accruals, balance sheet account reconciliations, intercompany balances, and other close deliverables to ensure completeness, accuracy, consistency and appropriate support.
  • Analyze results and investigate variances and trends against budget, forecast, and prior periods; provide clear and meaningful commentary for management.
  • Support the revenue recognition and cutoff procedures as part of the month‑end close process.
  • Complete company‑wide oversight of the Concur expense management tool.
  • Maintain consistent accounting policies, practices, and reporting standards across branches, legal entities, and business units in accordance with ASPE and applicable group reporting requirements.
  • Manage foreign exchange accounting and reporting for transactions, balances, and related revaluations.
  • Oversee fixed asset accounting and tracking, including additions, disposals, transfers, depreciation, and periodic verification of assets with operational teams.
  • Support accounting for project‑based jobs.
  • Support the accounting requirements for inventory counts.
  • Support the commission and bonus calculations and related accruals, ensuring alignment with approved plans and underlying financial results.
  • Partner with department leaders to improve understanding of financial results and strengthen cost control.
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls over financial reporting, accounting processes, and company assets; identify control gaps and ensure remediation is completed.
  • Ensure timely and accurate government and regulatory filings, including sales tax and other recurring compliance requirements, in coordination with internal and external tax resources.
  • Support the coordination of external audit activities and prepare or review working papers, account support, and responses to auditor requests.
  • Maintain organized accounting records, review evidence, and documentation standards that support audit readiness and effective financial governance.
  • Monitor compliance with company policies, approval authorities, accounting standards, and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Lead, coach, and develop direct reports.
  • Assign and prioritize work across the accounting team.
  • Establish clear expectations for quality, responsiveness, documentation, and follow‑through.
  • Promote a collaborative culture that supports internal customers.
  • Identify opportunities to standardize, automate, and strengthen accounting processes and reporting.
  • Partner with IT to develop and improve financial and operational reports, system controls, and data quality.
  • Support the integration of newly acquired companies.
  • Contribute to finance transformation initiatives and other projects assigned by senior leadership.

The Accounting Manager is responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and timely delivery of financial information across the Total Power Limited Group. Reporting to the VP Finance, Canada, this role leads the close process, financial reporting, account reconciliations, regulatory compliance, and key accounting processes. The Accounting Manager provides hands‑on leadership to the accounting team, strengthens internal controls and standardized practices, and partners with operational leaders to improve financial visibility, accountability, and decision‑making across a multi‑branch organization.

What You’ll Do - The Role
Financial Close, Reporting and Analysis

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance is preferred.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and the ability to work confidently with large and complex data sets.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet firm deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
  • High ethical standards, professionalism, accountability, and a collaborative approach to supporting internal and external stakeholders.
Working Conditions
  • Travel may be required.
  • Ability to attend meetings and prepare or deliver presentations.
