Job summary

Our client is seeking a hands-on Accounting Manager to lead the day-to-day finance function during a period of department transformation. Reporting to the Vice President, Finance & Operations, this role will oversee a small finance team while ensuring timely financial reporting, audit completion, strong internal controls, and continuity across the finance function.

Qualifications

• CPA designation is required and CPA/CFO-level knowledge is essential.
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience with strong reporting and controls.
• Experience in a non-profit environment is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead the month-end and year-end close processes with timely reporting.
• Prepare and review financial statements, schedules, reconciliations, and journal entries.
• Coordinate and manage external audits and respond to auditor inquiries.
• Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of 3 individuals.
• Strengthen internal controls and document procedures with continuity plans.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and Board reporting with variance analysis.
• Lead finance involvement in ERP implementation, including testing and issue resolution.
• Manage accounting for grants, donations, endowments, and restricted funds.

Our client is seeking a hands-on Accounting Manager to lead the day-to-day finance function during a period of department transformation. Reporting to the Vice President, Finance & Operations, this role will oversee a small finance team while ensuring timely financial reporting, audit completion, strong internal controls, and continuity across the finance function. The successful candidate will play a key leadership role in improving reporting timelines and supporting an ongoing ERP implementation.

Your Success Will Be Defined By Your Ability To

• Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting
• Prepare and review financial statements, supporting schedules, account reconciliations, journal entries, and working papers
• Coordinate and manage the external audit process while addressing auditor inquiries and implementing recommendations
• Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of 3 individuals
• Strengthen internal controls, improve finance processes, and establish documented procedures, backup coverage, and continuity plans
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and Board reporting by reviewing financial plans, variance analysis, and budget assumptions
• Lead finance participation in the ongoing ERP implementation, including process optimization, reporting improvements, testing, and issue resolution
• Manage accounting for grants, donations, endowments, and restricted funds while ensuring compliance with funding requirements

Your strengths include:

• CPA designation is required
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience with strong exposure to financial reporting, audit, internal controls, and operational accounting. Experience in a non-profit environment is a desired asset
• Proven experience leading and developing finance staff while remaining hands-on in day-to-day accounting activities
• Experience coordinating external audits and managing auditor relationships
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both financial and non-financial stakeholders
