Job summary

NFI Group is seeking an Accounting Intern to spend May through August with our group accounting team, gaining exposure to financial reporting and month-end close processes. You will work closely with the accounting reporting team to learn policies and practices and support various accounting tasks.

The role emphasizes collaboration across Finance and Operations, with opportunities to contribute to the North American Bus and Coach Business Unit reporting.

Qualifications

  • Working towards a bachelor's degree in commerce or business administration (accounting or finance major)
  • Familiarity with IFRS is a plus
  • Prior experience in a finance/accounting function is an asset
  • Ability to communicate professionally in written and verbal form
  • Strong MS Excel skills and ability to learn new systems
  • Experience with Oracle is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Assist in various internal accounting tasks including recurring month end tasks and preparing journal entries
  • Collaborate with the Accounting Transactions Team Supervisor and Group Accounting Manager to meet deadlines
  • Support and interact with Finance and Operations teams
  • Ensure accurate reporting for the North American Bus and Coach Business Unit of the NFI Group
  • Provide ad-hoc support on a variety of tasks and projects
  • Other duties as assigned

POSITION SUMMARY

The Accounting Intern will spend a term spanning from May to August, working with our group accounting team to ensure accurate financial reporting. The student will gain great knowledge of internal accounting activities and learn month end close processes in line with NFI Group policies and processes. The position will work closely with the accounting reporting team.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:
  • Assist in various internal accounting tasks including, but not limited to, performing recurring month end tasks and preparing journal entries
  • Work closely with Accounting Transactions Team Supervisor and Group Accounting Manager to ensure that deadlines are met
  • Support and interact with various functional groups within Finance and Operations
  • Ensure accurate reporting for the North American Bus and Coach Business Unit of the NFI Group
  • Ad-hoc support on variety of tasks and projects

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:
  • Working towards a bachelor's degree in commerce or business administration (accounting or finance major)
  • Working knowledge of IFRS considered an asset
  • Prior experience in a finance/accounting function considered an asset
  • Ability to converse in a professional manner in both written and verbal communication
  • Strong organization and interpersonal skills
  • Analytical problem solver with capabilities to work within a fast-paced team environment
  • Strong MS Excel skills and ability to learn new systems
  • Experience with Oracle considered an asset
