The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) is the statutory body responsible for regulating Ontario's capital markets in accordance with the mandate established in the provincial Securities Act and the Commodity Futures Act. The mandate of the OSC is to provide protection to investors from unfair, improper or fraudulent practices, to foster fair, efficient and competitive capital markets and confidence in the capital markets, to foster capital formation, and to contribute to the stability of the financial system and the reduction of systemic risk. This mandate is performed through policy, operational, and enforcement activities. The OSC also contributes to national and global securities regulation development.

Overview of the OSC's Rotational Program
  1. Work Experience Rotation Period (24 months, net of absences) – Participants will complete the CPA foundational and professional work experience requirements by rotating through the following divisions within the OSC: Registration, Inspections and Examinations Division and the Corporate Finance Division.
  2. Multi-Group Assignment Period (36 months) – Subsequent to completing the CPA designation requirements in the Work Experience Rotation Period, participants will be assigned to available opportunities in various other groups of the OSC to continue to grow and develop their experience. During this period, rotations could include the following groups: Internal Audit Division, Department of the Chief Accountant, or Enforcement Division. Upon completion of the Multi-Group Assignment Period, or earlier as needed, a participant will be placed into a permanent position.

  • We will only be considering applicants who: Are students entering their final year of university studies with a graduation date prior to September 2027, with an interest in obtaining their CPA designation (or students who have successfully completed an accredited post-secondary institution program, such that they are eligible to participate in and write the Foundational Development Examination prior to joining the OSC).

What type of work will you do?
  • Conduct reviews of registered firms and regulated entities to assess compliance with Ontario securities laws that support investor protection and confidence in the capital markets.
  • Participate in the review and assessment of the OSC's internal controls.
  • Complete continuous disclosure reviews for public companies and registrants that report in accordance with IFRS and U.S. GAAP.
  • Assist in researching and advising on the application of new and/or complex accounting standards.
  • Assist in developing and assessing the application of regulatory rules and policies related to accounting and assurance standards.
  • Participate in the development and delivery of training in topical areas of accounting, assurance, and other areas that impact financial reporting or securities regulation to other members of the OSC.
