This is a dynamic, non-repetitive contract covering a parental leave. The successful candidate will act as a subject matter expert on complex accounting issues (such as financial instruments and consolidation), provide financial accounting advisory support to various Business units and Corporate areas, and ensure compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and regulatory requirements.

Advantages
  • Global Brand Exposure: Gain invaluable experience working for one of Canada’s most recognized and respected global financial institutions.
  • High-Impact Advisory Work: Step away from repetitive operational accounting; this role provides a dynamic environment focused on high-level advisory and complex technical issues.
  • Senior Management Exposure: Regularly interact and build relationships with senior internal stakeholders and business partners.
  • Strong Potential for Extension: Enjoy a stable 1-year contract with the possibility of extension based on performance and business needs.
  • Convenient Hybrid Model: Work from a premier downtown Toronto location 4 days a week, offering the perfect blend of collaboration and flexibility.
Responsibilities
  • Technical Advisory: Provide timely, accurate, and practical technical accounting advisory services under IFRS to internal stakeholders, translating complex accounting topics into clear, actionable advice.
  • Research & Policy Maintenance: Conduct technical accounting research, benchmarking, and analysis; prepare accounting policy updates, memos, and presentation materials.
  • Transaction Review: Review new business and product proposals—including IFRS 9 business model assessments and consolidation assessments—and advise on related accounting implications.
  • External Reporting Support: Assist in the preparation of external consolidated shareholder reports (MD&A, Financial Statements and Notes, Supplemental Financial Information), ensuring robust disclosures and compliance with regulatory (OSC and SEC) standards.
  • Stakeholder Management: Manage and cultivate strong working relationships with internal business partners (Segment Finance, Product Control, Finance Operations, Risk, etc.) and external auditors.
  • Collaboration & Alignment: Participate in daily stakeholder meetings and collaborative sessions (typically 2 to 3 hours daily) to address emerging and complex accounting issues.
Qualifications
  • Education: Post-secondary degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or Business Administration (BA).
  • Professional Designation: Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is required (candidates in the final stages of completion with only one exam remaining may be considered).
  • Experience: 3 to 7 years of overall financial accounting experience, with a heavy emphasis on technical accounting policy and advisory (purely operational accounting backgrounds will not be considered).
  • Proven experience working extensively with IFRS guidance and advising on accounting policy.
  • Professional background stemming from a Big 4 accounting firm (ideally with Audit experience).
  • Prior experience working within financial institutions (such as banks or credit unions).
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
