Red Deer Resort & Casino in Red Deer, AB, is looking for an Accountant to support day-to-day accounting and financial activities for the casino operation, ensuring accurate transactions and compliance with policies.

You will perform full-cycle accounting, month-end and year-end closing, reconciliations, reporting, budgeting, and audit preparation, collaborating with Corporate Controller and other departments.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • CPA designation or progress toward CPA is an asset.
  • 2–4 years of relevant accounting experience.
  • Experience in casino/gaming/hospitality is an asset.
  • Strong Excel skills and proficiency with accounting software.

Responsibilities

  • Perform full-cycle accounting activities for casino operations.
  • Prepare and post journal entries and maintain accurate general ledger accounts.
  • Complete bank, balance sheet, revenue, expense, and other account reconciliations.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes and ensure required schedules are completed accurately and on time.
  • Review and reconcile casino revenues, expenses, and other financial transactions.
  • Process and review invoices, payments, employee expenses, and other accounting transactions.
  • Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions as required.
  • Investigate accounting discrepancies and coordinate with the appropriate departments to resolve issues.
  • Assist in preparing monthly financial statements, management reports, and supporting schedules.
  • Prepare financial and operational variance analyses and provide explanations where required.
  • Assist with annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
  • Prepare supporting documentation and schedules for internal and external audits.
  • Support compliance with CRA requirements, company policies, established internal controls, and applicable casino financial procedures.
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and organized accounting records and supporting documentation.
  • Assist in monitoring financial controls and identifying opportunities to strengthen accounting processes.
  • Support the implementation of accounting system improvements, process changes, and other Finance initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with Casino Operations, Payroll, Human Resources, and other departments on accounting and financial matters.
  • Maintain confidentiality of financial, employee, and business information.
  • Perform other accounting and Finance-related duties as assigned by the Corporate Controller.

Position Summary

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • CPA designation or progress toward a CPA designation is considered an asset.
  • Minimum 2–4 years of relevant accounting experience.
  • Previous accounting experience within a casino, gaming, hospitality, entertainment, or other regulated environment is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience with full-cycle accounting, journal entries, general ledger reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Experience with month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Experience supporting internal or external audits and regulatory or tax compliance is an asset.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience using accounting and financial software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively within a team environment.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive financial information with professionalism and discretion.
