Job summary

Haventree Bank, a private Canadian Schedule 1 bank, seeks an Accountant in Toronto to manage day‑to‑day accounting and finance operations reporting to the Manager, Finance Operations. You will ensure IFRS compliance, process wires/EFTs, reconcile bank accounts, and prepare regulatory filings and broker reports.

Ideal candidates have a bachelor’s in business, 2+ years of relevant experience, and strong Excel, with excellent written and verbal communication.

Qualifications

  • The position requires a bachelor’s degree in business and/or equivalent work experience.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience with strong Excel skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem‑solving ability.
  • Ability to learn quickly and meet tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of Dynamics BC and Alteryx is an asset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and time management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure financial transactions are recorded in the general ledger in IFRS compliance.
  • Facilitate wire transfers, EFT processing and assist with deposits.
  • Perform daily bank reconciliations and weekly GL reconciliation.
  • Prepare and submit monthly OSFI regulatory filings.
  • Analyze and report on monthly bank fees.
  • Prepare broker compensation reports and coordinate remittances.
  • Provide cross‑functional support and backup coverage for the team.
  • Assist with month‑end close, including employee expense accruals and audits.
  • Support ad‑hoc information requests for internal/external stakeholders.
  • Administer travel/expense system, onboarding/offboarding and access management.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Finance Operations, the Accountant is responsible for day-to-day accounting and finance operations.

Major Duties & Responsibilities
  • Ensure financial transactions are accurately recorded in the general ledger in compliance with IFRS reporting standards.
  • Facilitate wire transfers and EFT payment processing and assist with cheque deposit activities.
  • Perform daily reconciliations of bank accounts and weekly GL reconciliation.
  • Prepare and submit monthly regulatory filings to OSFI.
  • Analyze and report on monthly bank fees.
  • Prepare broker compensation reports, coordinate payment remittances, and manage the commission mailbox while maintaining effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide cross‑functional support and backup coverage for team members as required.
  • Assist with month‑end close activities, including booking employee expense accruals, year‑end audits, and quarterly reviews.
  • Support internal and external stakeholders by preparing information and analysis for ad‑hoc requests.
  • Administer the travel and expense management system, including employee onboarding and offboarding, user access management, expense report processing, corporate credit card administration, user training, troubleshooting, and ongoing employee support.
Qualifications & Experience
Degree, Diplomas & Certifications
  • The position requires a bachelor’s degree in business and/or equivalent work experience.
  • Performs work under minimal supervision.
Years and Range of Experience Required to Perform the Job
  • The position requires at least 2 years of relevant experience including superior Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem‑solving ability.
  • Ability to learn quickly and to work under tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics Business Central and Alteryx is an asset.
  • The position requires strong written and verbal communication skills and exceptional organization and time management skills.
