General DescriptionAs an
Accountant at Waste Connections of Canada, you will be involved in every aspect of the accounting cycle. You will support the District Controller with daily accounting tasks, monthly forecasting, annual budgeting, and special projects. You will interact with employees across Operations, Sales, Dispatch, and Customer Service. Success in this role depends on a strong work ethic, excellent communication skills, and problem-solving abilities. Our growth and success rely on sourcing, developing, and promoting individuals who meet these expectations.
Minimum Responsibilities- Coordinate the month-end district close process, including billing.
- Prepare and record GL journal entries.
- Review and approve all accounts payable invoices.
- Prepare month-end financial statements and analysis reports.
- Assist with annual budget preparation.
- Review and approve various items in Trux – Cash, Adjustments.
- Prepare balance sheet reconciliations for various districts.
- Reconcile monthly GST submissions for districts.
- Implement and maintain reporting processes on a daily, weekly, and semi-monthly basis.
- Assist with financial analysis for district projects or decisions as needed.
- Prepare capital purchase requests, including supporting documentation.
- Coordinate and perform inventory counts – Rolling Stock, Container, and Truck/Container Shop inventory.
- Perform various ad hoc projects.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics.
- Enrolled in or planning to enroll in CPA or MBA program.
- 3+ years of accounting experience in a similar role.
- Proficiency in accounting software and MS Office.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
- Self-starter with a strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
