The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (SCBD), administered by UNEP and located in Montreal, supports the Convention's objectives. This role sits within the IT and Digital Transformation Unit, reporting to the Associate Information Systems Officer.
Job purpose: This consultancy focuses on front-end development for the Access and Benefit-Sharing Clearing-House (ABSCH) and the Biosafety Clearing-House (BCH) websites. The primary goal is to implement crucial functionality improvements identified by the ABS Clearing-House Informal Advisory Committee. This includes enhancing user experience for genetic resource users, improving record management for parties to publish and update information efficiently, and refining search capabilities through keyword tagging. The role also involves improving the user interface for designating national users and enhancing website visualization, reporting, and analytics tools to provide valuable statistics and insights.
Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for implementing various front-end development tasks for the ABSCH and BCH platforms. Key duties include developing a registration form for external API users, integrating the new KM API version while removing the legacy one, and implementing record maintenance functionality. The role also involves creating a new legal framework overview common format, improving keywords and descriptions for national authorities and procedures, and enhancing search filters and indexing. Furthermore, the consultant will implement dynamic, interactive, and visual reporting tools to display statistics and trends, providing private dashboards for national users on website traffic and record activity.
Education: A University degree is required. Desirable areas of study include Computer Science, Information Communication Technology, or a related field. Fluency in oral and written English is mandatory. Knowledge of other UN languages is desirable.
Work experience: A minimum of two years of experience in web development, software engineering, or information technology is required. Experience with both front-end and back-end development of web applications is also necessary. Experience with user experience (UX) concepts and user interface design principles is essential.
Skills: Expert knowledge in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript/Typescript. Familiarity with Bootstrap, jQuery, and AngularJS/Vue/React. Experience with REST API and API documentation (e.g., Swagger). Proficiency in version control. Competencies include Communication, Teamwork, Planning and Organizing, and Client Orientation.
