Job summary

Saputo Inc. is seeking a 4th Class Operating Engineer for our Canada plant in Ontario. The role focuses on safe operation and maintenance of utilities, including ammonia refrigeration, boilers, and related systems in a high‑volume dairy facility.

You will work Sunday–Tuesday 6:30pm–6:30am with a rotating 4th Saturday shift, earning $44.70/hour plus overtime premiums and dual-ticket premiums where applicable. This is a full‑time, permanent position with benefits.

Qualifications

• 4th Class Operating Engineer license or Refrigeration Operator Class B required.
• Minimum 1 year hands-on experience in manufacturing with ammonia refrigeration and boilers.
• Experience with high-pressure boilers, ammonia refrigeration, and air handling systems.
• Strong troubleshooting and reliability mindset; documentation skills.
• Knowledge of H&S, GMP, HACCP, and BRC practices.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily logs and preventative maintenance on plant equipment.
• Oversee shift and supervise contractors on site during shift.
• Operate ammonia refrigeration plant and process cooling.
• Complete work orders and maintain logbooks.
• Ensure compliance with TSSA, HS, GMP, HACCP, and BRC practices.
• Maintain powerhouse equipment and ensure availability of parts.

Overview of the role

Saputo Dairy Products Canada G.P. is seeking a 4th Class Operating Engineer, for an existing opportunity within our organization. You'll discover a stimulating atmosphere that fosters your professional growth in a clean and safe environment. This position is responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of all utilities and facilities (high pressure steam boilers, ammonia refrigeration, compressed air, fire system, etc.). Our plant is a 3rd Class High Pressure Power Plant.

Schedule: Sunday-Tuesday 6:30pm-6:30am. Every 4th Saturday (6:30pm-6:30am). Vacation coverage as required (12hr shifts). Status: Full-Time, Permanent. Salary: $44.70/hour. Hours worked on Saturdays and Sundays are compensated at one‑and‑a‑half (1.5) times the regular hourly rate. Additional Premiums for dual ticket.

How you will make contributions that matter

• Perform daily logs and preventative maintenance functions within the plant (refrigeration and auxiliary equipment, high pressure steam boilers, air compressors, associated piping etc.;
• Responsible for their shift and the direct supervision of contractors working in the plant during their shift;
• Operate and maintain the ammonia refrigeration plant (process cooling and warehouse cooling);
• Complete all required documentation (work orders, logbooks, etc.);
• Comply with TSSA requirements and Operating Engineers act;
• Comply with H&S, GMP, HACCP, and BRC practices;
• Other maintenance/duties as required

Qualifications

• 4th Class Operating Engineer or Refrigeration Operator Class B License Required at a minimum;
• Preferred dual ticket ( 4th class operating engineer with Industrial Mechanic -Millwright)
• Minimum 1 year hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment, installation, start-up, troubleshooting, service and field operations of various auxiliary equipment – ammonia refrigeration, steam boilers, air compressors etc.;
• High pressure boilers, ammonia refrigeration, and air handling systems experience is required;
• Troubleshooting skills with motivation for continuous improvement and reliability is required;
• Familiar with fire suppression and building security system;
• Ability to maintain accurate written records and documentation within a CMMS system;
• Power Engineering Diploma is considered an asset;
• Current knowledge in H&S, GMP, HACCP, and BRC procedures;
• Familiar with PLC operation and troubleshooting;
• Handles troubleshooting, maintenance and repairs, preventative/predictive maintenance plans and spare parts;
• Ensure all powerhouse equipment is maintained properly.
• Ensure availability of replacement parts for key manufacturing equipment to minimize unnecessary machine downtime.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills;
• Proficiency and dependability in current position.
