Job summary

ATCO Frontec is seeking a 4th Class Building Operator to join the RP North team in Yellowknife, NT. The role covers maintaining a 24/7 facilities operation and performing skilled tasks to keep mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, the building envelope, landscaping and fire monitoring in good condition.

Responsibilities include routine maintenance, inspections, and ensuring safety standards and certifications are up to date.

Qualifications

• Must have 4th Class Power Engineer Certification with Biomass Boiler Systems or Heating Oil experience
• Driver's Licence Class 5 with clean abstract
• Pass drug & alcohol test, fit‑to‑work medical, and extensive background check
• Must obtain Government Security Clearance
• Professional communication skills, oral and written
• Ability to prioritize and multitask
• Work well under pressure
• Excellent problem solving abilities

Responsibilities

• Work on tasks as assigned by the Site Superintendent with limited supervision
• Conduct timely maintenance services and quality repair of equipment
• Routine handyman duties; HVAC systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing and minor Carpentry
• Ensure all building equipment is in good running order and relevant certifications are up to date
• Conduct daily facility walkthroughs and correct deficiencies
• Maintain daily equipment and meter reading logs where required
• Respond to emergency requirements; availability for after-hours and weekend call‑outs on a rotating basis
• Conduct detailed inspections to ensure scheduled maintenance and unscheduled repairs are completed
• Use CMMS for processing maintenance requests in conjunction with site superintendent and maintenance administrator

The 4th Class Building Operator is responsible for performing various skilled and semi-skilled tasks to maintain a 24/7 facilities operation. Responsibilities include maintaining the mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, building envelope, landscaping, fire monitoring systems

Where We Work and Live:

ATCO Frontec provides preventative and corrective maintenance services for our customers throughout Yellowknife and the surrounding areas. Our maintenance teams are mobile, and travel to other sites may be required – Inuvik, Whitehorse, Rankin Inlet, Iqaluit.

Responsibilities:

• Work on tasks as assigned by the Site Superintendent with limited supervision.
• Conduct timely maintenance services and quality repair of equipment
• Routine handyman duties; working with HVAC Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing (e.g. plunge toilets and unclog drains) and minor Carpentry.
• Ensuring all building equipment is in good running order and relevant certifications are up to date.
• Conduct daily facility walkthroughs of assigned portfolio and correct deficiencies.
• Maintain daily equipment and meter reading logs where required.
• Respond to emergency requirements; Available for emergency call out duty during afterhours and on weekends on a rotating basis.
• Conduct detailed inspections to ensure that scheduled and periodic maintenance of building and equipment have been completed.
• Active participation in Preventative Maintenance program including unscheduled repairs.
• Use CMMS for processing Corrective and Preventative Maintenance requests in conjunction with site superintendent and maintenance administrator personnel.
• Prioritize activities to complete work as scheduled and in a timely manner.
• Follow safe work practices and ensure work is performed in accordance with work standards.
• Maintain all service tools and equipment in good working condition and arrange for repair or replacement as required.
• Others duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 4th Class Power Engineer Certification, preferably with experience with Biomass Boiler Systems and/or Heating Oil, Minimum 5 years’ experience is required.
• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and clean drivers abstract is required.
• Must be able to pass a Drug & Alcohol Test, Fit-to-Work Test, and Extensive Background Check.
• Must be able to obtain Government Security Clearance.
• Professional communication skills, oral, and written.
• Ability to prioritize and multitask.
• Work well under pressure.
• Effectively solve problems.
