Job summary

The Alma Mater Society of UBC Vancouver is actively seeking a 3rd Cook for the Gallery Patio & Lounge. This full-time, on-site role reports to the Sous Chef/Chef de partie and involves varied shifts in a fast-paced kitchen environment.

You will prepare and cook a range of dishes following established recipes while maintaining high food-safety standards and teamwork to ensure smooth service. This entry-level opportunity supports culinary growth within a student-focused organization at UBC.

Qualifications

• Culinary diploma or apprenticeship required or equivalent experience.
• Food Safe Level 1 certification (minimum).
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-based kitchen.
• Able to lift up to 25 kg and stand for extended periods.
• Willingness to work varied shifts, including daytimes and evenings.
• Strong English communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Review prep lists and BEO to complete the preparation.
• Monitor fridge labels, dates, and rotate products.
• Keep kitchen clean and organized; sweep, mop, clean hoods, remove trash.
• Wash dishes, glassware and kitchen equipment as needed.
• Adapt to changes in new menu items and cooking techniques.
• Operate kitchen equipment and handle knives safely.
• Prepare ingredients according to recipes and portion sizes.
• Cook various dishes such as burgers, pastas, and salads.
• Collaborate with other cooks to ensure smooth service.
• Familiar with common ingredients, cooking methods and flavor profiles.
• Proficient knife skills and proper use of equipment.
• Perform any other tasks as directed by senior staff.
