Job summary

Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking a 3rd Class Power Engineer to operate and maintain the chiller plants, boilers and related mechanical systems at Hants Community Hospital. You will perform rounds, respond to silent hour emergencies, and ensure safe, efficient plant operation.

Requirements include NS 3rd Class Power Engineer designation, 1 year in a high-pressure steam plant, knowledge of boilers, chillers and HVAC, plus safety-oriented mindset. French language is an asset.

Qualifications

  • Designation as a Standardized Nova Scotia 3rd Class Power Engineer.
  • One year experience in a high pressure plant (steam) and associated equipment.
  • Good knowledge of boilers, chillers, HVAC and electrical machinery.
  • Strong safety track record and mindset.
  • Knowledge of applicable safety codes.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform rounds of building mechanical rooms and inspect systems (boilers, chillers, HVAC).
  • Operate chiller plants and high pressure steam equipment to ensure safe, efficient operation.
  • Respond to silent hour emergency calls and maintain safety compliance.

About The Opportunity

Reporting to the Chief Power Engineer the 3rd Class Power Engineer performs a variety of tasks that ensure the safe, efficient and continuous operation of the chiller plants, all high pressure steam equipment, pressure vessels, water treatment programs, and all related auxiliary equipment as well as building mechanical systems at their assigned site.

The 3rd Class Power Engineer completes rounds of building mechanical rooms and must have a basic understanding of other building maintenance trades as he inspects various mechanical systems, ex: medical gas/air/vacuum system, air handling units (ventilation), heating systems, fire water pumping system. The 3rd Class Power Engineer is also responsible for silent hour emergency calls.

Hours
  • Permanent, Full-Time Position; 75 Hours Bi-weekly
  • Shifts are Monday to Friday working every 3rd weekend
Compensation And Benefits

$32.23 - $32.74 Hourly
