Job summary

Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking a Shift Operator 3rd Class for Yarmouth Regional Hospital's FMS Plant Operations. The role ensures safe operation of power and HVAC systems, logs activities, and supports maintenance projects in a hospital setting.

Candidate must hold Shift Operator Third Class certification (or eligible for inter-provincial), with 5 years of plant operations experience and knowledge of safety regulations and CSA standards. Casual relief staffing model offered.

Qualifications

• Certification as Shift Operator Third Class or eligible for Inter‑Provincial Third Class Power Engineer Certification.
• Five (5) years’ experience in plant operations.
• Knowledge of applicable safety regulations, building codes and CSA standards.
• Ability to use a variety of hand, power and industrial tools for measuring, cutting, welding and assembling.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain a second-class power plant and associated HVAC systems.
• Maintain logs and records relating to safety and efficiency of plant mechanical systems.
• Assist in maintenance of buildings and equipment.

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the assistant manager or designate of facility services the shift operator 3rd class contributes to the safe and effective operation of a second-class power plant at Yarmouth regional hospital by providing a full range of services relating to the day-to-day maintenance and project related activities for the facilities respecting the heating, air conditioning, power, and water generation units. The shift operator 3rd class also operates and maintains ventilation and air conditioning systems, maintains logs and records relating to safety and efficiency of plant mechanical systems and assists in maintenance of buildings and equipment.

The Shift Operator 3rd Class ensures all functions are completed in accordance with legislation, established standards, policies and procedures and exhibits sound professional judgment and initiative while working within the Mission, Vision and Strategic Directions and incorporates into daily practice the Core Competencies and Values of the organization.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

• Certification as Shift Operator Third Class or eligible for Inter-Provincial Third Class Power Engineer Certification of Qualification.
• Five (5) years’ experience in plant operations
• Knowledge of applicable safety regulations, building codes and CSA standards.
• Ability to use a variety of hand, power and industrial tools for measuring, cutting, welding and assembling.
• Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
