Job summary

Corner Brook Pulp and Paper Mill in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, is seeking a Power Engineer to operate the Steam Plant safely and efficiently. You will monitor the demineralized water system and are responsible for the safe startup and operation of a 17 MW Siemens Turbogenerator.

Candidates should have a 3rd Class Power Engineering Ticket, with preference for those pursuing a 2nd class; WHMIS and First Aid certifications are required, and pre-employment testing will be conducted.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3rd Class Power Engineering Ticket; preference for 2nd class in progress.
• Background in an industrial/production environment is an asset.
• Strong commitment to Health and Safety.
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment and handle changing priorities.
• Must provide proof of qualifications and be available for pre-employment testing.

Responsibilities

• Operate the steam plant safely and maintain high pressure boiler operations.
• Monitor and maintain the demineralized water treatment system.
• Ensure safe startup and operation of a 17 MW Siemens Turbogenerator.
• Be willing to perform tasks outside the Steam Plant as required.

OVERVIEW

Corner Brook Pulp and Paper is currently looking for a candidate for the position of Power Engineer working in the Steam Plant. Power Engineers are responsible for the safe operation of high pressure boiler and auxiliaries including pumps, compressors, etc. Responsible to check and maintain demineralized water treatment system, and the safe startup and operation of a 17 MW Siemens Turbogenerator.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Previous experience working in a 1st class plant is considered an asset.
• Knowledge of safe plant operations.
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment and changing priorities.
• Previous experience in a production environment is preferable.
• Willingness to work at tasks outside the Steam Plant as required starting out, including labour work, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS

• As a minimum, candidates will have a 3rd Class Power Engineering Ticket, but preference will be given to someone working toward their 2nd class ticket.
• Previous experience working in an industrial environment is an asset.
• Strong commitment to Health and Safety.
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment and changing priorities.
• Ability to work short notice and after hour calls.
• All applicants should possess a grade 12 diploma or equivalent in addition to their power engineering certificate.
• All applicants will have recent Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS) training and possess Standard First Aid Certification.
• Applicant must provide proof of all relevant qualifications and be available to participate in a pre-employment testing procedure.
