Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a 3D Unity Generalist / Visual Artist based in Canada.

The 3D Unity Generalist / Visual Artist will create polished, stylized 3D environments for interactive and real-time experiences. This hands-on creative role combines environment art, scene composition, 3D asset integration, simple animation, and lightweight visual effects. You will take ownership of environments from initial scene setup and layout through to final artistic refinement, ensuring each project meets high visual standards. Working closely with creative and technical collaborators, you will transform visual concepts into cohesive, engaging, and production-ready environments directly within Unity. The position offers creative autonomy and the opportunity to contribute to immersive and experiential projects. It is ideal for an experienced visual artist who combines strong artistic judgment with practical real-time production skills. Candidates must be able to collaborate during US business hours, regardless of their location.

Accountabilities
  • Create 3D environments: Build visually polished, stylized environments directly in Unity, ensuring they meet project requirements and are suitable for real-time applications.
  • Own environment development: Manage the complete environment creation process, from initial setup and scene layout to asset placement, visual refinement, and final delivery.
  • Develop scene composition: Arrange environmental elements and 3D assets using strong principles of composition, spatial organization, and visual storytelling to create coherent, engaging scenes.
  • Maintain visual consistency: Apply artistic direction consistently across environments, balancing simplified visual styles with professional-quality presentation.
  • Implement simple animations: Create and integrate basic object movements and animated interactions, such as objects moving through a scene or disappearing off-screen.
  • Integrate visual effects: Develop or implement lightweight visual effects using Unity particle systems and other practical tools to enhance scenes and interactions.
  • Apply 3D generalist expertise: Contribute across different aspects of environment development, asset integration, and visual polish to achieve the desired artistic outcome.
  • Ensure quality and execution: Identify and resolve visual issues, refine scene details, and take responsibility for the quality and completion of assigned work.
  • Collaborate with project teams: Work with creative and technical colleagues to align visual execution with project objectives and functional requirements.
  • Communicate artistic decisions: Clearly explain creative choices, demonstrate personal contributions, and present work developed and implemented directly in Unity.
Requirements
  • Strong hands-on experience creating and developing 3D environments directly in Unity.
  • Proven experience in environment art, scene building, and visual development for real-time applications.
  • Solid 3D generalist skills and an understanding of the workflows involved in environment creation and asset integration.
  • A strong artistic eye for composition, spatial arrangement, visual storytelling, and overall scene coherence.
  • Demonstrated ability to create stylized environments with a polished, professional visual finish.
  • Senior-level or strong mid-level capabilities, with the ability to work independently, manage priorities, and take ownership of creative deliverables.
  • Practical experience creating and implementing simple object animations and movements in Unity.
  • Working knowledge of lightweight visual effects and the ability to integrate basic effects into real-time scenes.
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating environment art, visual quality, and hands-on Unity work. Candidates should clearly identify their personal contributions to the projects presented.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, combined with initiative, adaptability, and a commitment to creative excellence.
  • Availability to work and collaborate during US business hours, regardless of location.
  • Experience with Unity particle systems and other lightweight visual effects is an asset.
  • Background in gaming, real-time environment art, interactive media, immersive installations, or experiential projects is an advantage.
  • Advanced programming skills and complex character animation expertise are not required; the primary focus is artistic execution and practical Unity environment development.
Benefits
  • Creative ownership: Take responsibility for environments from initial concept implementation through to final visual delivery.
  • Creative autonomy: Work independently and apply your artistic judgment to transform visual direction into polished real-time scenes.
  • Collaborative environment: Partner with creative and technical professionals to deliver engaging interactive experiences.
  • Opportunity to build your portfolio: Contribute to visually distinctive environments and real-time projects that demonstrate your artistic and technical capabilities.
  • Inclusive culture: Work in an environment that welcomes diverse backgrounds, encourages collaboration, and values creative excellence over individual ego.
  • Location flexibility: The position is listed with on-site and remote options, with Montreal, Quebec, identified as a location. Candidates must be available during US business hours.
  • Compensation and additional benefits: Salary, healthcare coverage, paid time off, and other benefits were not specified in the original job posting.
