Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance is seeking a Laboratory Support I (General) for a part-time, job-share role at Stratford General Hospital. Under supervision of the Charge Technologists, you will rotate through Core Lab, Histology and Microbiology, performing phlebotomy, patient registration and other support tasks.

The position requires MLA certification and CSMLS/MLPAO MLA examination, with strong organizational skills and the ability to work both independently and in a team.

Qualifications

• Familiar with microbiology setup.
• Familiar with phlebotomy techniques.
• Familiar with all types of specimen collection.

ROLE

Under supervision of the Charge Technologists, the Laboratory Support I General will provide support services and rotate through all areas in the Stratford Laboratory. At present these areas include Core Lab, Histology, and Microbiology. Duties will include but are not limited to, phlebotomy, patient registration, media inoculation, IHLP supply inventory, histology slide labelling, distribution, filing and tissue disposal.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION(S)

• Medical Laboratory Assistant/Technician Certification
• Graduate of an accredited MLA training program and having successfully completed the CSMLS or MLPAO MLA examination

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE(S)

• Familiar with microbiology setup
• Familiar with phlebotomy techniques
• Familiar with all types of specimen collection
• Organized and self-directed
• Works well under supervision and with others

DESIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE(S) & EDUCATION

• Recent related experience in a similar setting preferred
