Job summary

Fowler Construction seeks 310T Mechanics and Apprentices to service heavy trucks, winter maintenance vehicles, and construction equipment in the Greater Sudbury area.

Roles start Sept 1, 2026 with options for travel to North Bay or Bracebridge; strong emphasis on safety, reliability, and teamwork. Competitive benefits and a pathway for apprentice development are offered.

Qualifications

  • College/CEGEP/technical training preferred.
  • Computer literacy or working towards it.
  • Strong organizational skills with clear communication.
  • Self-directed and able to work with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Receive work orders and determine repairs.
  • Repair hydraulic pumps, safety valves, and components.
  • Inspect and repair gasoline and diesel units.
  • Welding on equipment as needed.
  • Adhere to safety policies and report hazards.
  • Diagnose defects in heavy equipment.
  • Repair in shop or on road calls.
  • Install or align engines and machinery.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and hydraulic systems.
  • Complete work orders and timecards.
  • Maintain maintenance reports and documentation.
  • Instruct or work with apprentices.

Position Description

Fowler Construction is seeking 310T Mechanics and Apprentices to handle repairs and maintenance on heavy trucks, winter maintenance vehicles and other construction machinery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Receive work assignments in the form of oral and written work orders and determine the nature and extent of needed repairs.
  • Repair and adjust hydraulic pumps, safety valves, and any other necessary mechanical components.
  • Inspect, repair, and adjust gasoline and diesel-powered units.
  • Perform incidental welding operations on equipment.
  • Adhere to workplace safety policies, regulations, and compliances.
  • Communicate any unsafe conditions or accidents/injuries in a timely manner to the supervisor to facilitate prompt correction or reporting.
  • Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, and streamline work processes.
  • Diagnose defects in heavy equipment.
  • Perform mechanical repairs on equipment in the shop and road calls when required.
  • Install new and added-on equipment.
  • Perform electrical and hydraulic troubleshooting and diagnostics.
  • Accurately complete work orders and timecards.
  • Repair cooling, and lubrication systems.
  • Install and align engines and machinery.
  • Repair mechanical transmissions, drivetrains and final drives.
  • Repair cable-operated working attachments, winches, compressors, pumps, electric generators, etc.
  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance.
  • Clean, lubricate and perform other maintenance work.
  • Instruct apprentices or receive instruction as an apprentice.
  • Keep detailed and accurate maintenance reports and documentation.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of changes in technology and repair techniques.
  • Perform vehicle inspections as per CMVIS standards.
  • Review and educate apprentice mechanics, or become familiar as an apprentice, of the safe operation of licensed vehicles as per CMVIS.
  • Other mechanical repair work as required.
Position Requirements
  • Completion of college/CEGEP/vocational or technical training is preferred.
  • Appropriate credentials and certifications - 310T license, or apprentice.
  • Computer literate or working towards computer literacy.
  • Strong organizational skills with task prioritization, use of timelines and time management techniques, and clear communication abilities.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Complete work with attention to detail to produce a quality product.
  • Conduct yourself in a professional and mature manner.
  • Must be able to work with little supervision; must be self-directed.
  • Must be able to stand, lift 50 lbs., carry, bend, reach.
  • Must maintain a valid driver's license.

These roles start September 1, 2026 in the Greater Sudbury area. If you can/would like to start earlier the working locations are based out of either North Bay, or Bracebridge with paid travel from now until September 1, 2026.
