Job summary

GFL Environmental Inc. in Ayr, Ontario is seeking a 310T Apprentice Mechanic to join our maintenance team. You will perform repairs, preventive maintenance, and diagnostic evaluations on heavy vehicles and equipment while upholding safety and compliance standards.

The role requires 310T license (or level 2+ apprentice), a valid G license, own tools, and the ability to work independently or in a team. Welding experience is a plus; there is potential for overtime.

Qualifications

• Licensing: 310T Truck and Coach License (or 310T level 2 or higher apprentice).
• Valid G driver’s license and reliable transportation to work.
• Own tools are required.
• Welding experience is an asset.
• Teamwork and independence needed; able to work alone or with others.
• Applicants with 3+ years’ experience will be prioritized.

Responsibilities

• Maintenance and repair operations on vehicles and equipment.
• System diagnostics for electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems.
• Use vehicle computer electronics to diagnose failures and plan repairs.
• Estimate time and materials for repairs and handle emergency service calls.
• Uphold safety checks and maintain a clean, safe work area per OHSA.
• Complete paperwork in fleet maintenance software detailing parts, times, and repairs.
• Follow safety procedures in all tasks.
• Mentor apprentices and provide guidance.

Job Title: 310T Apprentice Mechanic
Location: Ayr, Ontario
Shift:
Dayshift: 6:00 am to 2:30 pm
Afternoon Shift: 4, 10-hour shifts (Monday - Thursday AND Tuesday - Friday) to be rotated

Responsibilities:

• Maintenance & Repair Operations: Performs repairs and preventive maintenance services on vehicles and equipment.
• System Diagnostics: Performs inspection, diagnosis, and repair of electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems.
• Computerized Electronics: Utilizes vehicle computer electronics systems to interpret failure modes to initiate and assign repairs.
• Estimates & Emergency Support: Estimates time and material costs on vehicle repairs and performs service calls for emergency breakdowns.
• Safety & Compliance: Conducts safety checks on all vehicles and equipment. Maintains a clean and safe work area in compliance with corporate / OHSA standards.
• Documentation: Completes required paperwork utilizing fleet maintenance software program associated with repairing vehicles, documenting part usage, and accounting for repair times.
• Safety Procedures: Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
• Apprentice Mentorship: Working alongside apprentices to provide them with assistance and guidance.
• Additional Duties: Other duties as assigned.
