Job summary

The City of Merritt is seeking a three‑month term Communications Manager to join our leadership team and drive public engagement strategies. Reporting to the Director of Community Engagement, you will coordinate media relations, external communications, and social media content while supporting internal communications.

You will research, write, edit and produce diverse communications materials, develop toolkits for departments, and showcase creative graphic design to enhance our city’s messaging

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years in a communications/public engagement position in a government setting.
• Knowledge of project management principles.
• Strong organizational and planning skills.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
• Understanding of communication in a local government context.
• Strong writing and editing skills across styles and media.
• Fluency with core social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram).
• Strong graphic design skills.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate and implement communications and public relations strategies.
• Provide creative support for media relations and external communications.
• Research, write, edit and produce internal/external communications.
• Assist with development of public engagement/communications toolkits and templates.
