UGDSB is seeking a dynamic Educational Assistant for a temporary full-time position at John Black Public School. The 1.0 FTE equates to 32.50 hours per week under a 10-month school-year calendar, from September to June.

The hourly rate ranges from $30.92 to $36.74, with vacation pay per ESA guidelines. Start date is as soon as possible, end date undetermined but not beyond June 30, 2027.

Qualifications

  • Educational Assistant Diploma or a combination of formal education related to child development and work experience
  • Post-Secondary Degree in a related field of study
  • A valid Behaviour Management Systems certification is required
  • Experience with students with special needs is strongly preferred
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder Training is beneficial
  • Ability to perform essential physical duties (lifting/positioning)
  • Access to reliable transportation to attend specific schools

Responsibilities

THE OPPORTUNITY

The UGDSB is seeking a dynamic individual to join our team for a temporary full-time opportunity in the capacity of Educational Assistant.


Reporting to the school Principal, the Educational Assistant must possess willingness, along with the physical ability, to work with all of our students who have many diverse needs.


Location: 1.0 FTE; John Black Public School

FTE and Hours: 1.0 FTE = 32.50 hours per week; full-time

Hourly Rate of Pay: $30.92 - $36.74 per hour, plus applicable vacation pay in accordance with the ESA; wage rate effective September 1, 2025

Start Date: As soon as possible

End Date: Unknown end date not to exceed June 30, 2027

Board Information: 10-month position (yearly from September – June following the school year calendar); temporary; full-time; Educational Student Support Personnel (ESSP) & Designated Early Childhood Educators (DECE) Union

Responsibilities:


  • Educational Assistants work with students with many diverse needs. This work provides support for the behaviour, safety, medical and physical needs of a student

  • Duties may include lifting, toileting, positioning and transferring children and equipment and application of BMS.

  • Educational Assistants work with students both individually and/or in a group setting

  • Flexibility, patience, empathy and the ability to work closely with students with complex needs, classroom teacher, parents and Administration

  • Other duties as assigned


Experience and Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates who have the following qualifications:



  • Educational Assistant Diploma, and/or a combination of formal education (fields related to the development of children and/or special education) and work experience deemed equivalent by the Board

  • Post-Secondary Degree in a related field of study

  • A valid Behaviour Management Systems certification is required for this position

  • Proven ability and recent experience in working with students with special needs and behavioural disabilities is strongly preferred and school-based experience is a definite asset

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder Training

  • Lifting/Positioning Training

  • Flexibility, patience, empathy and the ability to work closely with students with complex needs, classroom teacher, parents and Administration

  • Candidates must be capable of performing the essential physical duties of the position, such as lifting, positioning and transferring children and equipment and utilizing BMS techniques where required

  • Access to a reliable method of transportation and ability to attend specific schools
