Job summary

Nova Scotia Community College's Institute of Skilled Trades in Dartmouth is seeking a seasoned Sheet Metal Worker to join the faculty for a term position, commencing September 21, 2026 and ending June 11, 2027. You will deliver theory and hands-on shop training while mentoring students in the Sheet Metal Worker program.

Ideal candidates hold a Red Seal, have at least five years journeyperson experience, and can translate industry knowledge into classroom guidance.

Qualifications

• Interprovincial Red Seal certification in Sheet Metal Worker
• Minimum of five years (full-time equivalent) of recent journeyperson experience as a Sheet Metal Worker
• Strong technical knowledge in layout, blueprint interpretation, welding, brakes, shears, rollers and other metal forming tools/equipment
• Comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• A commitment to safety, mentorship, and lifelong learning

What We're Looking For

We're seeking experienced tradespeople who are passionate about the industry and interested in helping others succeed.

Ideal candidates will have:

• Interprovincial Red Seal certification in Sheet Metal Worker
• A minimum of five years (full-time equivalent) of recent journeyperson experience as a Sheet Metal Worker
• Strong technical knowledge in layout, blueprint interpretation, welding, brakes, shears, rollers and other metal forming tools/equipment

• A commitment to safety, mentorship, and lifelong learning

Previous teaching experience or related experience in the delivery of educational program or training adults would be an asset, but not required. If you've coached apprentices, trained coworkers, or shared your knowledge on the shop floor, you already have valuable experience to build on.

NOTE: Two years of your training will be counted towards the educational requirements and cannot be included as part of your occupational experience.

Compensation & Benefits

Faculty salaries currently range from approximately $81,760 to $104,267 annually, based on experience and qualifications.

This role combines shop instruction with modern teaching tools and blended learning approaches, including in-class, online, and off-site instruction, as well as occasional evening and weekend sessions.

As a condition of employment, you are required to provide proof of a valid Red Seal certification, including your Red Seal number for verification with the Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency, prior to your start date.

As a condition of employment, Faculty at NSCC must complete a part-time adult education program delivered by NSCC. This adult education program is a significant investment on the part of NSCC in the learning and development of new employees. To achieve regular status, all probationary, full or part-time Faculty of the College must successfully complete the program within their probationary period. Term full-time Faculty whose term appointment is twelve or more months are also required to participate in this program.
