Job summary

Lakeridge Health Oshawa is seeking a Registered Nurse to join the Psychiatry General team within Mental Health & Addictions. You will use the nursing process to provide patient care in a primary nursing environment and contribute to the health care team.

Must hold a current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (in good standing) and a BScN; at least 2 years in inpatient mental health/addictions is preferred. BCLS is required; a focus on inclusion and compassionate care is essential.

Qualifications

  • Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (in good standing)
  • Current BCLS certificate
  • Commitment to Reflective Practice Standards as outlined by the CNO
  • Minimum of 2 years in inpatient mental health and/or addictions setting
  • CMH Nursing Psychiatric Nursing Certificate preferred
  • Experience in acute mental health setting
  • Knowledge of group theories and dynamics
  • Experience with multidisciplinary teams
  • Completion of Prevention and Management of Aggressive Behaviour Program
  • Ability to diffuse escalating or violent patients
  • Mental health assessment and interview skills
  • Knowledge of community mental health resources
  • BScN required
  • Commitment to core values: Inclusion, Compassion, Innovation, Teamwork, Joy
  • Understanding of safety programs and ongoing education in safety

12 Hour Shifts, Days, nights, weekends, DDNN (effective Jan 2027) Schedule (Subject to Change)

Location: Lakeridge Health Oshawa

Wage Schedule: $41.150 - $58.980 per hour

Duties And Responsibilities

To use nursing process in providing patient care in a primary nursing environment. To participate as a member of the Health Care Team and the Nursing Team. As an individual practitioner, to maintain competence and professionalism relevant to current practice. To maintain nursing records.

Qualifications
  • Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (in good standing);
  • Current BCLS;
  • Demonstrated commitment to maintaining Reflective Practice Standards as outlined by the CNO;
  • Minimum of 2 years working experience in an Inpatient Mental Health and/or addictions setting, is required.
  • Canadian Mental Health Nursing Psychiatric Nursing Certificate is preferred;
  • Proven to have experience in an acute Mental Health setting;
  • Demonstrated excellent knowledge of, and experience in group theories and dynamics;
  • Proven experience with working with a multidisciplinary team;
  • Proven completion of Prevention and Management of Aggressive Behaviour Program;
  • Proven ability to recognize and diffuse escalating or violent patients;
  • Ability to conduct Mental Health Assessment with excellent interviewing and communication skills;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Community Mental Health Resources;
  • BScN Degree is required;
