Job summary

Lakeridge Health Oshawa is seeking a Registered Practical Nurse to join the Emergency Department (Zone 11) on a temporary part-time basis. You will deliver client-centred psychiatric, addiction and general nursing care, in a primary nursing model, while aligning with CNO standards and safety protocols.

The role requires 12-hour shifts including weekends, days and nights, with wage range of $36.95–$39.02 per hour.

Qualifications

  • Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing.
  • Current B.C.L.S. certificate required.
  • Registered Practical Nurse Diploma from an accredited community college.
  • Minimum of current or 1 year experience in an Acute, Community Mental Health, or Addictions unit/program.
  • CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide client-centred psychiatric, addiction and general nursing care.
  • Ensure security and safety of patients and maintain CNO standards.
  • Deliver clinical care in Zone 11 of the Emergency Department.
  • Work within a primary nursing model and contribute to the interprofessional plan of care.
  • Perform assessments and develop, implement and evaluate care plans.

This position is open to all qualified CUPE staff throughout Lakeridge Health commencing 27 August 2026 and closing at 11:59 pm on 1 September 2026.

Duties And Responsibilities
As a member of an interprofessional team, you will provide client-centred psychiatric, addiction and general nursing care, ensuring the security and safety of the patients while maintaining the CNO standards of nursing practice. You will be responsible for providing clinical care to patients in Zone 11 of the Emergency Department. Working within a primary nursing model, you will actively contribute to the treatment approach for the unit, perform assessments, develop, implement and evaluate the interprofessional plan of client care.
Qualifications
  • Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (in good standing);
  • A current B.C.L.S. certificate is required
  • Registered Practical Nurse Diploma from an accredited community college
  • Minimum of current or 1 year experience in an Acute, Community Mental Health, or Addictions unit/program is required;
  • CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing is considered an asset
  • Demonstrated commitment to maintaining Reflective Practice Standards as outlined by the CNO;
  • Demonstrated excellent knowledge of, and experience in group theories and dynamics;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Community Mental Health Resources;
  • Completion of a Non-Violent Crisis Prevention or equivalent course, or within 1 month of hire.
  • Completion of a Mental Health Certificate Program preferred with expected completion within 3 years of hire.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Trauma-informed care and Psychotropic medication.
  • Demonstrated understanding of approaches to assessing and management of suicide risk
  • Demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the management of disturbed behaviour
  • Ability to conduct Mental Health Assessment with excellent interviewing and communication skills;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to develop a therapeutic Nurse-Client relationship and work within a collaborative and diverse interprofessional team;
  • Ability to work with clients of diverse cultural and social backgrounds is necessary
  • Bilingualism or proficiency in a second language would be an asset;
  • Must have satisfactory performance record;
