Lakeridge Health in Ajax-Pickering is seeking a Physician Assistant to support the Orthopedic perioperative program. You will perform screening, assessments, procedures, and patient education under physician supervision, focusing on in-patient trauma, hip/knee arthritis, and joint replacement care.
Temporary full-time (2 months) position with 8-hour day shifts; you will participate in on-call coverage and ensure accurate documentation, patient navigation and smooth flow on the Surgical unit.

Reporting to the Patient Care Manager, the Physician Assistant (PA) will work with our interdisciplinary team primarily in screening, initial assessment, treatment and monitoring of Orthopedic patients presenting for routine procedures and urgent care needs for trauma, hip and knee arthritis and / or joint replacement surgery. The PA role will be focused on Perioperative Orthopedic care for the in-patient setting. In general, the PA will work under the direct supervision of the Physician and will be responsible for patient navigation and flow improvement on the Surgical unit. The candidate's responsibilities may vary depending on the specific needs of the patients and the support required within the surgical program. Responsibilities include thorough patient assessment, comprehensive physical exams, ordering and interpreting medical investigations such as blood tests, imaging and other diagnostic procedures, performing minor procedures, diagnosing and treating illness and providing patient and family education. The PA will perform on-call duties during the day to assist with in-patient consults and will maintain detailed medical documentation, including consult notes, progress notes, discharge summaries, admission orders and discharge orders. Other specific duties and additional opportunities to support the Orthopedic program development will be assigned as the PA's skill set evolves.
