Job Title: Registered Practical Nurse

Status: Temporary Full Time (6 months)

Department: Healthy Aging & Medicine Float Pool

Program: Patient Care Support Services

Shift Length: 12 Hour Shifts – DDNN (Subject to change)

Location: Lakeridge Health Bowmanville and Port Perry

Wage Schedule: $36.95 – $39.02 per hour

NOTE: There is an expectation that the successful candidate will work on all Healthy Aging program units at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville and Port Perry.

Duties And Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager of Staffing Resource Team, the successful candidate will be responsible for personal patient care, vital signs, physical assessment, administration of medications, monitoring IVs, monitoring telemetry, setting up medical equipment as appropriate, and other duties as assigned. The RPN will participate as a member of the Float Pool, Multidisciplinary Team, and the Nursing Team at the Bowmanville and Port Perry sites on Healthy Aging program units. As an individual practitioner, the nurse will maintain competence and professionalism relevant to current practice. The nurse will be responsible for maintaining the health record according to hospital policy, procedure and standards.

Qualifications
  • Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (in good standing).
  • Registered Practical Nurse Diploma from an accredited community college.
  • Current B.C.L.S. certificate.
  • Recent medical‑surgical experience and evidence of recent related continuing education.
  • Coronary Care I course (Cardiac Rhythm Interpretation) required or must enroll within 6 months of commencing in the position and successfully complete within 18 months (reimbursement for the cost of the course will be provided upon proof of completion).
  • Demonstrated self‑motivation regarding continuing education in areas of patient assessment, patient education, leadership and related clinical specialties.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to change in patient care assignments, patient care units and hospital sites within the corporation.
  • Ability to lift, turn, transfer patients with the use of mechanical lifts.
  • Demonstrated skills in providing patient education and sharing knowledge of expected outcomes and care.
  • Evidence of sound organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to work well in stressful situations.
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and documentation skills with the ability to work well with patients, families, all levels of staff and the community.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues, volunteers and other members of the community and public.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health’s comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, and environmental safety and participation in regular in‑service education sessions in this area.
  • Demonstrated commitment to our core values of inclusion, compassion, innovation, teamwork and joy.
  • Must have a satisfactory performance record.
