Job summary

Sources Community Resources Society in British Columbia seeks a Casual Youth Justice/Youth Development Outreach Worker to join our Youth Services team. The position is outreach-based, primarily serving South Surrey and White Rock with possible broader Surrey area.

Responsibilities include monitoring youth in the justice system, preparing reports for MCFD Youth Probation Officers, coordinating weekly schedules, and connecting youth with pro-social activities while fostering emotion regulation.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in child/youth care, criminology, youth justice, psychology or related field is mandatory.
• Criminal Records check required (MPSG) and driving eligibility with Class 5 BC license.
• Experience with youth in probation or justice system is advantageous.

Responsibilities

Position: Youth Justice/Development Worker – Temporary (1-year mat leave)

Location: South Surrey/White Rock (outreach work may include broader Surrey area)

Hours: 35 hours/week

Start Date: September 9, 2026

End Date: September 9, 2027

We are looking for a Casual Youth Justice/Youth Development Outreach Worker to join our Youth Services team! Ideally, this individual must be an independent team player, have a passion for working with youth, and have a good understanding of culturally safe, trauma-informed, and strength-based approaches.

Description of Position:

Responsibilities include providing support and monitoring of youth involved in the justice system. The worker will network with and prepare written reports and/or required documentation for the MCFD Youth Probation Officer(s). The Youth Justice/Youth Development Outreach Worker will also:

• Transport and support youth as determined by identified goals from Youth Probation Officer.
• Connect youth with pro-social activities, support youth in developing emotion regulation and coping skills.
• Support the youth to find and complete community work service hours, as well as conduct curfew checks.
• Focus on stabilization, prevention, and development.

The successful candidate must demonstrate ability to develop therapeutic rapport with youth. An important part of this role is to complete required documentation including monthly reports, updates to referring agents, session notes, and other administrative work.

The work is outreach in nature, requires shift flexibility (based around the needs of the youth), and is provided mainly in South Surrey and White Rock area although may include the broader Surrey area.

General Responsibilities:

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to maintain records, write session notes, and complete monthly reports.
• This is a casual, outreach position which requires a flexible schedule to support the needs of the youth.
• Complete various program related administration tasks.
• Ability to professionally liaise with community partners.

Program-specific Responsibilities:

• Must have experience working with youth on probation and/or involved with the criminal justice system/at-risk to high-risk youth.
• Working knowledge of mental health concerns, including common diagnoses such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, FASD, substance abuse.
• Will provide support and monitoring of youth who are connected to the youth involved in the justice system.
• Will be responsible for case management, coordinating weekly schedule with youth, managing caseload/casual hours.
• Training and ability to work from a culturally safe, trauma informed, harm reduction perspective an asset.
• Training in Indigenous Cultural Safety an asset (Training may be accessed through Sources)
• Ability to work professionally and in collaboration with youth and MCFD staff.

Qualifications:

• Possess an undergraduate degree, ideally in Child and Youth Care, Criminology, Youth Justice, Psychology or related- Mandatory.
• Use of a vehicle that is safe and passes inspection (must be willing to obtain business insurance and transport clients)-Mandatory.
• Effectively utilize Office suite including Excel, Word, Outlook and central data systems
• Effectively communicate professionally, verbally and written in English
• Non-violent Crisis Intervention Training (Training may be accessed through Sources)
• Criminal Records check through the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General Criminal Records Review- Mandatory.
• Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and driver's abstract- Mandatory.
