Job summary

Southern Okanagan Secondary School seeks an Inclusion Support Teacher to support students with diverse learning needs within an inclusive classroom setting. The 1.0 FTE temporary position runs from September 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027 (or until the incumbent returns).

The successful candidate will lead in developing and evaluating IEPs, LSPs, and Annual Instruction Plans, adapt curriculum to meet varied abilities, and collaborate with teachers, education assistants, and community partners to

Qualifications

  • Education degree plus a Master’s degree, or an Inclusive Education certificate, or 5 upper-level courses incl Level B Assessment.
  • Recent successful classroom teaching experience in adapting curriculum.
  • Ability to lead development, implementation, and evaluation of IEPs, LSPs, and Annual Instruction plans.
  • BC Teaching Certificate and current eligibility for TQS card.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development, implementation, and evaluation of IEPs, Learning Support Plans and Annual Instruction plans.
  • Select and adapt curriculum, programs, and instruction to meet diverse needs including complex abilities.
  • Carry out assessments and interpret norm-referenced instruments to Level B.
  • Guide and support education assistant work and provide leadership to student support services.
  • Serve as school representative when consulting with district staff and community agencies.
  • Demonstrate effective communication, interpersonal, organizational and classroom management skills.
  • Integrate technologies and digital citizenship into educational programs.

POSITION: Inclusion Support Teacher

APPOINTMENT: 1.0 FTE Temporary

DURATION: September 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027 or earlier return of incumbent

Qualifications Required:
  1. 1. Education degree plus a Master's degree, or an Inclusive Education certificate, or 5 upper-level courses (must include a Level B Assessment course);
  2. 2. recent successful classroom teaching experience in adapting curriculum;
  3. 3. ability to:
  • - lead in the development, implementation, and evaluation of Individual Education Plans, Learning Support Plans and Annual Instruction plans;
  • - select and adapt curriculum, programs, and instruction to meet the diverse needs of all students including those with complex diverse abilities;
  • - carry out a variety of assessments, including classroom observation, curriculum-based assessment and diagnostic teaching methods, and administration and interpretation of norm-referenced assessment instruments to Level B;
  • - guide and support education assistant work under the direction of the school principal and provide leadership to the student support services department;
  • - serve as school representatives when consulting with school district staff and community agencies;
  • 4. effective communication, interpersonal, organizational and classroom management skills;
  • 5. ability to integrate technologies and digital citizenship into educational programs; and
  • 6. BC Professional Teaching Certificate and current eligibility for Teacher Qualification Service card.
